Eighteen years ago my Father received a Buck 501 as a best mans gift for a wedding, he carried it for a few years and now uses it to go apple picking and on random occasions. I had forgotten all about it until I searched his closet and found it, in need of a good lube but still timeless. Not wanting to take his I purchased the same model from the local army navy store to find that it hasn't changed, I figured I might as well carry on the tradition :) This is my first Buck and it wont be my last, it's nice to take a break from all the fancy expensive folders that litter my knife drawer and get back to the real knives that started it all. Here are some quick shots I took for "comparison", 1988-2006.

Can't wait till I carry it tomorrow :D

The 501 has been one of my favorites, along with the 110, 112, 118, 103 and on and on. It won't be your last:D ;) :D. Preston

Oh yeah, the 500, 532, 525:eek:

Nice! I like the 501 too. I carry a 503 at the office and switch to the 501 at home as a pocket carrier.

Carried the 501 all week and love it, took some getting used with sheath carry at work but the knife fits very nicely in the 3rd pocket of my jeans for EDC. I might just have to start collecting these wonderful knives, anyone know how many 501 variations are out there? And are the Prince and Knight the only other "slimline" models available? Thanks in advance :)

And another one is bitten;) :D ;)

Like other of Buck's popular series the 500 slimline had many variations. The 500, 501, 503, 505, 521, 525, 531, 532, and 535(I think?) maybe more. Produced at differing times, marked with/or without date stamps, different steels, different inlay/scales, bolster material, etc.

As you can see on this forum, variations pop-up, are discussed/cussed. Variations can have variations:rolleyes:  . It is, at the same time entertaining and frustrating. You decide(really your wallet:D) on the extent of your collection.

If you were to join the Buck Collectors Club(BCCI) there is a website and newsletter and many members(like on this forum) that have a wealth of information. Good luck, Preston
