First have about six large glasses of bourbon and coke. Now get the stupid idea to go do some quick sanding on your fresh batch of homemade rag markarta. This is wher it gets to be fun.
Take a one foot square piece of 3/4" plywood and hold it under the belt of your 3450 rpm sander with one hand. Now to make it even better stand in front of the sander and slide what you are sanding on top of the belt. Move it back and forth to make a temporary platen so to speak. Now stop paying attention to what you are doing and let that piece of plywood get caught between the belt and the contact wheel and SLAM into your stomach so hard that it knocks you down.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

I did this extremely stupid thing last night. The funny thing is that it didnt seem so stupid until I got hurt. Just thought I would share this in hopes that no one else gets this stupid Idea.

Try a more expensive brand of bourbon, the cheap stuff will do that every time.

  :barf: :barf: :barf: :(

I'm pretty casual about most things, but I NEVER go in the shop when I've had even one beer. Hell, I hurt myself enough stone cold sober! :)

what do you expect when you allow knifemaking to interfere with your drinking? i'm no expert, but it sounds to me like you have a problem...consider a 12-step Knifemaker's Anonymous program...

trust me, if you allow knifemaking to take over your life like this, it's really going to mess up your drinking...

Gouge,

...Just feel really lucky that that plywood missle didn't hit you a few inches lower than your stomach!.:D.

One more argument for a three day waiting period and background check before you can buy plywood.

that cheap cola is dangerus  i am with jerry on this one. alcohol and machinery is a deadly duo.:( i hurt myself enought with out adding to the oh @!#$%% factor. now i am interested in seeing some of your home made rag micarta. got any pic's?

Most importantly did you spell you drink? If you did thats a hanging offense, if not nice recovery.:D
Knifemaking has a tendency to cause a person to drink, but if you do, do it responsible, and always have a designated grinder.

I would tend to think that bourbon and coke would taste better after doing something like that!

You Guys are hilarious!! No I did not spill a drop. And unfortunately I cant seem to get the software straight to get a camera to upload pictures to my computer. When I do I will post the pictures off my new line of "Markarta" So far I have made something that looks like a candy bar with peanuts or oatmeal. Some I think pretty damn cool looking rag stuff and some seashell Markarta. The beach aruond here is abundunt with some small peach colored shells that I crushed up.Im having fun with this stuff.I'm looking for a cheap source for gallons of the polyester resin if anyone knows a source.

If your hand is around a drink it will be harder to get it cut off.
Me.

Mark---Thank Gawd! Now I feel safe! After six bourbon and cokes I would not be able to find the grinder

After having studied up on epoxies for making a composite airplane, I know this stuff just isn't cheap. You can get gallons of epoxy from hobbiest aircraft and boat builder supply houses. Start with a search for composite boat builder supplies and you'll find lot's of places to get all the epoxy you want. West System makes several different kinds with pump dispensers that makes life much easier. Brownells carries this if you can't find it cheaper else where. You usually can't just go mixing up a gallon (or half) at a time. That much mixed at a time will go into thermal acceleration curing very quickly and occasionally give you some excitement with an entertaining chemical fire.

Now here's an anal nag note to annoy you.
Do keep in mind, all epoxies are sensitising eventually. If you handle it long enough, you will become allergic and have adverse reactions. There are dozens of airplane makers (and I suspect boat builders) that have had to walk away from investments of thousands of dollars in their kit plane as they developed allergic reaction to epoxy.

I'm concerned about your Micarta making Gouge. After reading about the plywood I wondered, "What if he mixes the shells with bourbon and drinks gallons of resin........HMMM, gives me an idea. I wonder what a resin stabilized stomach would look like sliced and made into scales.:D :D :D :D..WAIT...we could call it G ut10 :D

Wow I never even thought about that danger. Oh well its friday and I,ve got a gallon of cheap Bourbon with my name on it. I will post the nights devistation on Monday.
