Hi mods...not sure where to put this request. I did a search and did not find anything concerning having "likes" on the forum threads/responses. I have seen this in other forums( been on watchuseek and headfi)...and it would seem like a good idea for this one. I am new to the traditional /general blade forums and have noticed, as expected, folks that are oldtimers or have met in trade shows will "converse" in threads and often quote each other , while newer members seem left out. nothing feelss better than posting a picture of your newest knife , than having a few "likes" come your way.

anyway a suggestion. If it has come up before sorry for bringing it up again.

I should add that the traditionals forum is very good and am getting hooked...there are lots of friendly folks on the porch. and the GAW's are just amazing to witness. The mods also keeps things in very good order, Thanks

Welcome swaybacksteve!

I mostly lurk in the traditional forum but it is easily onne of the most pleasant and generous places on the forum. Not to detract from the rest of the site, it just goes above and beyond.

Sadly theres currently no way to like a post.

You can rate the thread though. Its right above the 1st post in the thread to the right.

Enjoy your stay.:)

yes I saw the thread rating...

Ok...just a thought, the forum engine overall does seem similar to watchuseeks and they have a "like". It was a suggestion for all the subforms. worth it to ask to see if it could be added.
thanks

The Like option is available in the tapatalk app. Not sure if it does anything, or if it just disappears into the ether. Never used it.

I think it might just disappear...as the main site has no "likes" button or notification of any likes.
Still would be a nice feature.

The unfortunate flip side to the "Like" or "Rep" module is that someone can easily retaliate and turn the forums into a giant pissing match. Likes are done by posing agreement, like minded discussion, or even complimentary and respectful commentary. Much easier and direct. I think at one point Spark, the owner decided against the whole repping system to avoid drama and keep things with more accountability.

I like that better. I seem to remember being on a forum many years ago that did just as you describe.

For the record, I "liked" this thread (via tt) and it does seem to stick. If anyone else did the same I could say if the tally goes up. In any case, it doesn't seem to be needed, or even wanted, by Spark. I'm down with that.

I see the whole , I have more "likes" than you , so I must be right, thing. And it's been considered and the boss doesn't want it. Fine by me.

not on tapa now, on the direct website and see no "like"....maybe cause I 'm just a regular user.
On to your usual scheduled station...thanks guys

I've see systems with likes where members openly asked for rep points, defeating the whole meaning of the system. Sort of like the Friend system we have here.

We had a "reputation" system here for a brief time, and it was a disaster, and I'm not proud to say that I was part of that disaster. Circlejerking and dogpiling is unfortunately inevitable. People will post irrelevant crap in hopes to get "thanks" or "likes", and buddies will do the same for each other whether it means anything or not.

I belong to another forum where a "thanks" system exists, and it works pretty well. However, "thanks" aren't usable in the "Off Topic" section, which actually doesn't get much traffic (the site is so large that such cliques don't exist, or are insignificantly small). Based on history, I don't think such a system would work well here, and would still expect misuse and abuse.

This other forum I'm talking about is XDA Developers, a (primarily) Android hacking and development forum. I've only been a member for a year and few months, but I feel I've made a presence there. 1600+ posts, 600+ "thanks". Most of these "thanks" are for being genuinely helpful, which I love to do (been doing it here for years). I don't do them for the "thanks", I do them to be helpful. But you're damned assured that I don't check my profile every time I log in to see if I've been "thanked". But the 2 most "thanked" posts I've made there were for bashing an idiot troll and for making a naughty joke. And naturally I've given "thanks" to other members who have done the same.

It's not so much the system that is flawed, but the general nature of human behavior. In particular, the ego, and how it acts in the anonymous environment of the internet.
