Recently I began stripping an AD, that went well enough, but I thought I might try and give it a slight overall polish with some comet and an sos pad, however it seems impossible to get to the areas around both talon holes, I was hoping that someone might have some suggestions on how to approach these areas?

In order to get around the talon holes and the flat areas around the handles you would need to remove the handle slabs by drilling it out with a 1/4" drill bit.

You would also need the 1/4" stainless tubes to fasten the handles back.

Just cut off the heads of drywall screws and put one on each side of the tube. Clamp the whole thing in a vise and crank down.

Do a search on wicked's thread for some pics. That is how I learned how to do it so I have to give credit to Wicked.

Ban's dead on. Wicked's thread was actually just bumped recently. Should be a page or two back. Look for his "NO-E" thread.

Ducci,
Somehow missed you original thread, but in reviewing it now, I see that it was a good one...very helpful.

You can also get the SS tubing at the local hobby store, it is used in building R/C models. Here is a link explaining how I do the tube fasteners.

Hey randucci, did you make the dies that you use to spread the tubing?

Yes, Ducci's tutorial is also a very good one :thumbup:

No, they were some sort of tool, I wish I had bought a bunch when they were available, but they are gone now. I have made some like it on my lathe though.

Wow that tutorial was very helpful ducci. I missed it before, as I have wanted to put some wood scales on a few of my busse's but wasnt sure how to flare out the tubing after i had taken the scales off. Know I can try it.
