Anybody have one of these?

I saw this at the Bento Box and am quite taken with it. Not sure how practical it's going to be though.

Might have to buy myself a Christmas present.

I have one and it makes a very useful daily carry. The tip is much less extreme than the full size Matriarch and functions well at many normal cutting tasks. Very underrated design for EDC. Do it! :)

I picked up one a couple years back and quickly realized I'd been sleeping on a very functional lil design

Gringo, I blame you!

Only been a week here, It's been in my EDC since. Replacing my Tasman Salt at the moment...

and no intention to change that!

Cute, capable, and compact. That's it!

Yeah, Peacent, I prefer it to the Tasman for most carry and use. The tip is not quite as robust as the Tasman for heavy pull cuts but the blade shape is far more versatile than the hawkbill.

I've been thinking about buying a Lil' Matriarch and I really like the blue FRN on the Bento Box exclusive. Too bad it's PE!

Can anyone comment that given the blade length, the Jazzlica will work similarly with Lil Matriarch?

The Lil' Matriarch is much more practical for EDC than the full size Matriarch or the Tasman in my opinion. If you like the plain edge then I say jump on it. BBS has had these for a looooong time now so sales haven't been great. This is apt to be the only PE Lil' Matriarch we see. I love mine.

So I've been looking at a Harpy or Lil' Matriarch. Can anyone give me a quick run down of the differences between the reverse S and the hawkbill? Obviously the main difference being the little bit of belly near the heel on the reverse S, but how does that translate into use?

I really like the look of these. I'm interested in a lil'matriarch, but I can't decide if I would prefer a spyderedge blade over the BBS one.

It's basically a Delica with a hawkbill, how can you go wrong??
If you're on the fence, I say go for the BBS plain edge version because you just don't see them very often. I got mine in the combo deal with the BBS Domino, and I love both. For BBS, it's not a terrible deal.

Hey, Kniferbro! The hawkbill was intended to take advantage of the deep curve through pull-cuts. The material getting cut gathers in the curve angle of the blade. The reverse S of the Matriarch and it's variants were intended for slashing defenses (note that the tips are thinner than on a Tasman or Harpy). Utility vs defense.

Thanks Hawkbill for teaching me about the Hawkbill. I think I'll get the Hawkbill.

LOL :D but seriously thanks!

The finer tip and subdued curve is what makes the Lil' Matriarch better for general use. My BBS Lil Matriarch is both a scalpel and a sickle in the garden. It can clear brush and weeds well by grabbing them in the curve and it can make careful pruning cuts with the last bit of blade. I have used it to pick vegetables a bunch. The tip is easy to get in behind a vine or stem in a tight spot and the blade has just enough hook to help make the cut. The tip on the Tasman is a bit thicker.

This one is on my list. Do you find the PE more versatile for pruning/garden picking vs SE? I tend to favor plain edges, but I've wondered which would be better in the garden.

I am not a fan of serrations so I may be the wrong one to ask.

For weeding and stuff the SE may be better but for pruning and picking I like the clean cuts of the PE. My PE Ladyhawk sees a bit of use in the garden too. I just think that PE Hawkbills are made for gardening. Victorinox makes a nice affordable hawkbill for gardening too.

I find I prefer plain edges in the garden and usually hawkbills and wharncliffes work the best for me. I also find that smaller knives are easier to control in the garden. There isn't much worse than thinking you are just removing a stubborn cucumber only to find out that you have cut a vine underneath as well. The PE Lil Matriarch has been my goto garden knife and is the most versatile but I have used a few others out there.

Besides the Lil Matriarch this guy is great in the garden.

Sorry for the hijack, I have a lot of gardening photos.

Dude...you should buy some knives sometime! ;)

BFK,

I believe you have seen the Jazzlica in action.
Given the shallow recurve of the LM, wondering if its effectiveness being more or less same as Jazzlica?
