Has anyone heard of the release date for this knife? Really anxious to pick one up to replace the Dragonfly I gave to my son

No word yet, you just have to wait like the rest of us. Spyderco tends to not release a date, simply that its coming, and then dealers start selling it when they have stock in hand. At least that's been my experience. Since there are now pics up on the coming soon section, I'd guess its close, we are running out of year. But I wouldn't be surprised if it falls into 2018, as there are a few from this year still left to go.
