I need help desiding between these knives...I'm looking for somthing somwhat lighter and thiner in the pocket. My current EDC is a BM520 so I don't want anything that feels cheap. I love the finger grooves and blade shape of the NativeII, but I'm affraid that it will feel cheap compaired to the action of the axis lock on the 530. As for the Para-military and the Temperance I've not handled any of the spydercos that are similar to those so I have no opinion on them. The only thing I will say is I'm worried about the handle to blade ratio on those (too much handle not enough blade).

The 520 is my first axis-lock BM. I really love the blade style. I think that it's going to be hard to beat the 520 in terms of something feeling not cheap. Maybe the Paramilitary should be your choice. G-10 always feels "Not Cheap" to me. :)

If lighter and thinner is your objective then steer a path clear of the Lil' Temperance. That thing is a stubby little tank! It's a wonderful knife though.

If I recall correctly, Spyderco like to put full size handles on smaller blades because that's where you generate the cutting power from. Much like a surgeon's scapel.

Wunderbar: thanks for the input.

Jsun: Thanks for the info...I understand what your saying about the blade to handle ratio, but does it look funny? That's what I don't like.

Knife11: both the Para-Millie and the Lil Temp don't look funny. Those a serious knives: great materials and design (CPM-s30v, G-10, very strong compression lock) and a lot of cutting power. They won't disappoint you. I suggest you choose the one with the best bladeshape for your needs. Good luck.

I totally agree. You'll be hard pressed to find better handle ergos than the 520. Ergonomics aside, I'd look into a quality frame lock if *thin* and strong is what you're lookin for

I was always very concerned with the blade to handle ratio, but the Spydercos really have converted me. Especially the Lil'T. The fact that the edge is continued without a coil makes this actually a very large blade, and it doesn't look funny at all. As for cheapness, I am absolutely convinced you would have to go to a custom to make the Lil' T feel cheap. I have handled a Buck TNT Ti and many BMs and a Buck mini styder (helps if you have two friends who collect knives and you have to buy for them, its like my own personal passaround :) ) and the Lil' T is most certainly on par with them (never handled a Henry Williams though). However, I would NOT recommed the Lil' T to you (as much as I love it). If the Buck Stryder is the "Mars bar" among the folders, the Lil' T is a "Snickers" :). The Native II may look cheap, but I find it definitely doesn't feel cheap in your hand. Lockup is rock solid and it's a knife with one of the best ergos I have ever handled has a wonderful "feel" to it and its an absolute bargain. Don't know about the BM 530.

The Calypso Jr will probably outslice most, if not all, sub 3" bladed folders in it's price bracket. Strong lock (heavy duty IIR) and classy for a FRN folder. I like it very much.

Team it up with a Swisstool or Leatherman and you're sorted :)

The Calypso is light and cuts like crazy. It made not be made as well as your BM, but you'll use it more!

I just got a Calypso Jr. today, and damn, it is the steal of a lifetime. Yes, the unlined FRN handle doesn't have the feel like steel or Ti lined G-10, but there is absolutely nothing cheap about it. It is an absolutely brilliant design with beautiful lines and great ergos! and it rides very nice and light (the advantage of FRN). Don't make the mistake of thinking that the FRN handle reduces lock or pivot strength. The Calypso still holds 100#s per in blade length. For $40 everybody should have one!!!
