A friend of mine offer me his 2nd, like new, never used Spyderco Lil' Temperance clip point in CPM440V with a green G10 handle. What do you think about this model and the steel it's uses? Any comments from the real users? Thx in advance guys. Cheers.

The model is well regarded by many. It has great ergos, a very strong lock, and is all around great! I believe 440v was replaced by S30V which Spyderco considers superior. I've read many complain that 440V can be a bear to sharpen. I own several Lil'T and am quite happy with them. The pocket clip can cut some pants pockets. hope that helps...I'm certain many more will chime in. :)

Thx zenheretic... the hard to sharpen 440V is quiet new to me. Never heard before, so I guess some user will confirmed your experience on that. Any other insights on this knife?

I have Lil Temperance in S30V. Great knife, in my opinion it is an excellent build tank. I do not have any blades in 440V, but I read a lot of comments about superior wear resistance of this steel, so it should take more time to sharpen.
If price is right, I would grab it.

If you like very strong, extremely well made ergos, vault-like lock, a fun toy to spin around while was watching tv or a knife to cut anything you may encounter, well... This is it.

I've had mine for the past few weeks and can't put it down...

Don't pass on it.

Are these two version (440V & S30V) has the same build and vault-like lock despite the steel?

Lil Temperance was made with two styles of blades: leaf and trailing point.
To the best of my knowledge leaf is most common and comes with PE and SE, also originally Spyderco was using 440V steel and later S30V. Trailing point blades only PE and 440V. All styles have the same compression lock and handle.
Good luck. It is a great knife.

I had a native in 440v but I didn't really use it enough to get too much of an idea of the steals properties. If you look it up on a steel char it has a very high carbon content. I would say about 50% higher s30v this which is a very high carbon steel in its own right. So it is definitely going to be hard to sharpened if you let it get significantly doll. You will probably have to send it back to the factory. But touchups now and then should not be impossible this. It is supposed to be more brutal probably twice as brittle as s30v just parroting back what I seem to remember right now.I also remember hearing that there were inconsistenciesthe heat treat of this steel, which was part of the reason it was discontinued in general so basically if you get a good batch or a good blade. You will have a good knife.

in reality. I personally think unless you are going to use it for chopping be boning or other chores that come in contact with very hard materials will not notice any difference except for increased wear resistance. But there is a certain piece of mind that comes with a more resilient steel.

Just get yourself a good diamond stone to sharpen it and you'll be good to go!

Absolutely. I am using DMT coarse stone in addition to Sharpmaker and it helps a lot with reprofiling.

There is very nice Lil Temp review by Wouter on his web site

Also there were several discussions within last couple months on Spyderco Forum at Spyderco Web site.
