Hey guys -
I haven't purchased a new Spydie in a fair amount off time since nothing really caught my eye that I thought would beat the Native 5 forum offering. Heckuva knife.
But I decided to try out the Lil' Vallotton as I thought it'd be worth a look. Little chunkier than I expected, but not terrible. Truthfully, I seen the full size in a Gotham episode and thought it looked cool, but don't care for the bigger models. So the Lil came out and I ordered.
Anyway, in the interim from buying new knives, has Spyderco changed their screw sizes?
This knife is one that begs for a deep carry clip. The factor standard clip, for me, just doesn't get it. Leaves too much exposed. Because of the thickness off the knife, the clip screws are longer than what seems the usual type used. There is scale curvature to deal with too. The handle isn't flat.
I've found too, the screws are thinner in diameter. I have a fair amount of clip screws in many lengths, but they won't fit into the factory screw holes that are in the scales.
Reason I say that is because I've collected a few aftermarket Ti deep carry clips that were made to fit Spydies. I'm not sure if it the curvature of the Vallotton handle that makes the clip hole placement/alignment just a tish off, even compared to older model Spydie clips. No biggee to solve, but then the factory screws, aren't long enough due to the greater thickness of the Ti as compared to the steel Spydie clip. They need to go in quite a bit through the scale to get to the steel liner to thread into.
Quite vexing. To quote Jerry Seinfeld.
So, can a smart machinist member who has one of these models, measure the screw and tell me the size? Then I can order longer ones to cut and fit. Or, offer a recommend for a deep carry clip that'll fit. I even checked a BM clip. Hole spacing is off by a fair amount. Or perhaps another brand deep carry clip someone's used?
Thanks!
Joe
