Just finished this one, and thought I'd post it up.
As you can (hopefully) see, this was inspired by the Lile First Blood and Mission knives.
The blade is 9" long 1/4" thick 01. Guard is 304 stainless and the pommel is aluminium.
However, due to me having absolutely no idea how to cut threads on my new to me lathe, this is a narrow threaded tang and has a solid Tufnol handle wrapped in paracord.
Maybe one day when I'm skilled enough I'll make a proper version!
A better name for this thread might have been 'hollow handle survival knife minus the hollow handle'.:D
Try not to laugh too much.;)
Here goes...

Thanks for looking.

Ian.

Maybe a laser sight of some sort as well?;)
Being a child of the 80's, the Lile Rambo knives have always held a fascination for me, which is why I decided to make this.
Maybe I'm having a mid-life crisis?

Cheers,

Ian.

It looks built nicely....the choice of a carbon steel for that pattern is not an ideal one, imo.

All the nooks and crannies lend themselves to rusting, and that is NOT a blade that looks good with patina, imo.

Best Regards,

Ian,
I saw your signature, said "oh boy". Then WHAT THE HAY!
As Big Rick said, not your typical, but Wow! Awesome knife, fabulous work.

Looks very nice, Ian. Nice job on the sawteeth and clip grind. Not an easy style to make. Very cool.

Thanks for your comments, as always, much appreciated.
Rick...Hello mate. It's nice to be back. You're right, this is something totally different for me. I always loved the Lile hollow handle knives, so I thought I'd make my own version. Last night I managed to turn my first thread on the lathe (not one that would be recognised anywhere in the world, but a thread nevertheless!) so I may attempt a hollow handle version at some point.

Steven...Couldn't agree more. I'd have liked to have used 440C or D2 as per the originals. I didn't for two reasons. Firstly, I work on a tight budget. I simply don't have the spare money for higher end steels and paying for heat treatment. The steels I use (01,1095, 80CrV2, old sawblades, etc, are cheap or free.
Second reason is just me being me. I like doing everything myself, including the heat treatment. On the few occasions that I've used stainless, it's bugged me that I had to get someone else to heat treat it for me. I know it's ridiculous, but that's just how my head works.
I've had my fun with this, I've made it, I've done some cutting, played with the saw and taken some photos. It'll now get a coating of Renaissance Wax and get thrown in a drawer to collect dust. If it rusts, it rusts. I'm not bothered. Making knives is purely about the enjoyment of making them for me. With this one, I had a lot of fun. That's good enough for me.

Sam...Thanks for your comment. Very much appreciated having seen your work. I did toy with the idea of putting this on your hollow handle thread, but figured that might be taking things a bit too far.;)
Maybe I should start a 'THE hollow handle lookalike thread'? :D

Thanks for all your comments.

Ian.

Ian, thank you for the kind words. But please, by all means feel free to post it in the thread if you like. It may not technically have a hollow handle, but it is very much in the spirit of those type knives. Besides, a different crowd hangs out over there and you'd likely find a warm reception. Either way, great job.
