I am wonder if many people use there LE sebenzas for EDC and anything that comes there way? I am also wondering how the wood ages and holds up to abuse. Also is there as much of a market for a well used LE compared to the plain ones. And is there any other diferances other than the wood, how many made, and the date?

There are a few people that buy them just for keeps and others that can afford to use them. IMO a knife aint worth buying if you aint using it. I have met a few people that use them and sure they will answer you questions when they come along. There are a lot of wood sebenzas out there and I have not heard of anyone with problems. It is wood so it needs to be taken care of and therefore aging will depend on the wood and the person maintaining the knife.

A LE sebenza will always have a market like the plane ones. No dought about that. the resail value on them are good.

Your last question. No there is not much of a difference as far as I know. The wood scales are bigger then the normal wood inlays and the sebenza gets a special nr on the scale IE 09, 08 etc for the year that it was made in.

I think that is pretty much it. If you are looking to pick one up to use. Go for it.

My knife carry (with the exception of my James Barber slipjoints) revolves entirely around inlaid Sebbies. I have four LE's.

I carry a knife for one day then change over so all my knives are carried one day a week.

This is a new thing for me so I can't really comment on my current knives although I have had previous experience of carrying LE's longer term. My first one was a Boxwood Elder and then Walnut. I carried both of these daily as my user for over a year each and had no troubles. The inlays get scratched up a little but both stayed firm with no splitting or damage. The Walnut wood got darker in colour and showed the carry marks worse so I sanded it down with Micromesh and waxed the surfaces before selling.

Money wise, I would guess that the LE's would be amongst the best knives from the current folder range for holding their prices. I never really tried for top money myself and in a few cases was idiotic enough (the benefit of hindsight is a wonderful thing) to actually give knives away. But I know from following the classifieds that they are as good to move on as any other general knife and better than most.

My reason for liking the inlays better is that I prefer the fuller grip and I feel that they have more character too. An example is that I still take time out occasionally to enjoy the fact that I have a piece of ivory on my knife from a creature which was last walking the earth anything up to four or five million years ago and is at least a few thousand years old. That's fantastic.

Anyway, have no worries about carrying and using an inlaid Sebenza and rest assured that it's resale value will be fine too.

I recently bought a 2009 thuya burl LE and have to say it looks and feelsfantastic. That's also the main reason I haven't carried it yet..

I'm trying to get to the point of carrying it while it's still legal in the netherlands. It's about to change later in the year.

This one is for keeping though, not for selling.

That would seriously piss me off.
Just another cautionary note for us living in the USA, give an inch and the government will take a mile. Sorry to hear of your impending loss of a right you currently have.

if i ever find my holy grail '07 annual with mammoth ivory, you better believe i will be using it. i have been looking for that knife for over two years now. of course i did not have the money for one back when i could have ordered one. go figure. :)

That really sucks :(. I would be heartbroken if that happened in Canada

I have 11 LE's and the one that I like to carry is my 2006 California Buckeye Burl. I've EDC'ing it off and on for more than 3 years. No heavy duty cutting but just your everyday usual stuff, open packages, food prep etc. Wood gets darker with more character and of course the titanium will get scratched up a bit. I figure that i won't be able to enjoy my knives in the grave so better to use and enjoy them while I can. The wood holds up great! Use it baby!!!:thumbup::p

dudes, thanks for some inspiration. have been carrying it right after reading some comments here :)
I've actually carried it some days, but have not been hard using it. This changes now!

Excellent! Don't forget that for <$100, you can get CR to refurbish the entire knife back to mint! Use it!

Every CR is meant be carried!! If I don't carry a knife on a regular basis I usually end up either trading/selling it.

Isn't the wood on all Chris Reeve Knives stabilized? I would think that would make the inlays reasonably more durable.
