I have 2 Limited Edition knives that I need opinions on and I think both are from 2000.

First has a box marked "192 green handle" with a code of 0192-SP7-0 CAT. 2893. The handle is not checkered and the blade is marked Master Series BG-42. It's packaged with a black leather sheath. It appears to be unused.

Second has a box marked "Bucklock Walnut" with a code of B532-BR-0 CAT. 2926. The handle is not checkered and it has a BG-42 blade. It's packaged with a black leather sheath. Other than some faint (polishing?) swirls in the nickel bolsters, there are no dings or scratches and the sheath doesn't have a crease from being folded over.

My question is, would you use the knives or are they collectibles? I tend to use more than collect and with so many knives out there, I'd hate to ruin something that someone else would treasure.

Thanks for your help.

I have one of those Master series 192's...NO WAY would I use it. There aren't that many of those that pop up for sale. Ones that do bring a pretty good price. Definitely a collectible.

Others will comment on the 532 as well as the 192.

Cabellas has a Vanguard (192) with a S30V blade that would make a fine user. I

IMHO : Master Series i have never heard of some one useing as they are very collectable ... i am not filmure withthe mod 192 off hand ... i would not use!!!

Bucklock Walnut, the buck locks are of a very personal nature ...
((( you did not hear this from me but i belive there is a supper secreat 532 club
of owners of both users and collectors compleat with handshakes
and head nods of acknolagement ))))

addationaly there is a happy go lucky bunch of BG42 lovers that still cut a rug to disco music!!!

with that one knive you could belong to two not one
but 2 exclusive buck collector sub cultures!!!
oh and KC is = 532 is a nice knife...
number of owners do use them and very very happy with them!
i have consitered finding a used one for edc... use it if you want ... or collect it...
thoes i personaly know that carry one say it is AB FAB as a user!!!:D

Dave, that 192 MS Vanguard is the green handled one with nickel silver instead of brass. cira 1998 Sorry I can't seem to find my pic...

There are words here in the Buck forum about these being overruns after some situation that stopped all of them from getting the normal checkering and the Master Series Medallion. Which I like the handle being the plain wood, except for being green.

Others will kick in with better words

They are both very collected models, but with the BG42 steel blades, the knives could be used (normal use, not testing abuse) and sent back to Buck, for a sharpen & clean, and it's likely that no one would be able to tell they were used at all.

I cannot add anything of substance beyond this ;)

My primary using hunting knife is a Master Series Vanguard. I don't really think the green handle is appealing. On the other hand it is a great using blade. I tested mine by chopping through bone. It took that use without any visible evidence of what I had done. For me this knife offered custom performance at a manufactured price. The Vanguard has great proportions and materials.

For a folding hunting knife I have a Buck 560 (titanium handle) with a BG42 blade. This gives me that great 110 profile with lighter weight and a higher performance blade steel. These are great users.

I appreciate all the opinions and suggestions folks. Based upon your responses, I think that I will upgrade my membership here and offer them for sale. My reasoning is that I really have my fixed hunting and edc folder bases covered and the proceeds will go toward something more suitable to my other outdoor needs.

It's funny how we all see things differently. I like the green on the 192 but I'm lukewarm on the feel of the 532.

I always have a 560/BG-42 in my pack, a 303 stockman as backup in my pocket and several other Bucks for whatever. Great stuff.

Thanks again everyone.

Hay are you Jay Hawken again!!!!!,

Sorry I could not help myself.

Let me give you my opinion on your BG-42 192. I have a NIB 119 that I just got off our good freind Larry O. It was made to be a MS119 but the green handle had to much yellow.....so they did not sell it with the MS knives. The box has it listed as 119 green handle (0119-sp1-0). Like your 192 (over run) Jayhawk; I think of this as a more rare version of the BG-42 issued knives. If I were you I'd keep that knife. Because it has the BG-42 blade it will have many folks interested in buying it. However, for the low numbers of that green handled BG-42 issued you shold keep it as a collectable.

Here is a scan of the only BG-42 blade I currently own. I will get a MS192 & MS110 some day...LOL.
