Limiting New Member Access to W&C

Esteemed Administrator:

Needless to say, the latest spate of trolling in the lady boob thread has revealed once again the open door to madness that W&C represents to totally random internet trolls, with no knife forum related interest, seeking temporary shelter from the vicissitudes of the untamed electronic frontier.

I would like to propose a minimum number of quality posts (say, 10-20 posts of 1-200 characters minimum) in the knife related areas, before a new member could gain access to W&C.

This would, IMO, improve greatly the S/N ratio of this popular forum.

Personally, I don't see this as a good idea.

I closed that thread because we were seeing some really toxic characters invited in from another forum. We can deal with that without restricting access.

On the other hand, the thread itself was started as an insult to a relatively new member. This sort of dogpiling almost deserves a toxic response. Why shouldn't he fight back?

Also, no one is forced to read or participate in a thread they don't like. Ignore, Page Down, or go to another thread.

It would have had no effect on the person to whom the original thread was directed.
He posted about knives many times before he started with the Lady Gaga related material.
It would have kept the other few trolls that he invited here out.
I do understand that you are capable of dealing with it without limiting access.
But, it would also make it easier for you, you would be able to spend less time patrolling the area.

I'd say it's better to have them start off in W&C rather than running rampant around the rest of the site trying to boost their post count.

Agree with Esav. No need to change the rules just because our regular W&C trolls don't like the competition.

ETA: Not directed at the OP. MP is good people.

I agree that restricting access will make it more likely that the trolling will just be done out side W&C, although that would mean they get banned quicker it will be an unnecessary disruption to the sub forums they choose to troll. IMO there should be less tolerance of trolls that are obviously just here to troll weather it's in W&C or not. The last two numpties that got booted are a good example.
