I have one knife on my pc here @ work. It's itty bitty but is useful for cutting thorugh packing tape to get through the boxed "lots" that I sometimes get in here to list in the catalog.

What I would like is this. I wear alot of dress clothes dress skirts, dresses, nice jackets I work in a nice upscale place. I can't wear something that has a sheath to it I don't wear belts much. So after giving it some thought...

I would most benefit from a flat type folding knife, one blade perhaps, sharp.. that has a clip to the side of the case I can clip onto my clothes and be essentially "inconspicuous." Now the blade on this one does not have to be itty bitty LOL but must be functional and ok, nice looking... I like bling LOL.

Ideally, and this is the kicker. My favorite type of blade as mentioned before is either Damascus or Meteorite. Does such a thing exist in this type format of knife commercially? I mean I want a knife that I want to wear (and buy). Or am I now into the realm of contract-out-for-what-I-want with a knife maker?

I appreciate the suggestions and links (I like pictures!) of a possible working knife for me I can wear with dress clothes for work, or camping or in my grungies at home as I putz around in the yard.

Depending on the price you're willing to pay -- and the blade materials you suggest can be expensive -- I think you might like the Mnandi by Chris Reeve.

While the knife is small enough to be inconspicuous, the blade is as long, for example, as a Spyderco Native's The clip is elegant and strong enough to hold the knife in a shirt pocket securely, where people mistake it for a pen.

The first Mnandi I ever saw had a damascus blade and mammoth ivory handle slabs. Beautiful.

But the basic model looks good, too! :)

See to me that is functional ART. and right up my alley....

Santa Fe Stoneworks does some beautiful work on several different models of Kerhaw and Spyderco knives. Lots of bling here :D and they would fit in very nicely in an upscale office setting or any other "dressy" situations.

Mcusta is making some attractive knives. Clad vg10/420 I believe is the blade steel.

Mcusta are very nice and very sharp, too, but I believe the metal-handled models are heavy, and I don't know if any of them come with pocket clips.

While I was reading your post the Mnandi came to mind.
I agree with Esav.

Also the clip on the Mnandi is the best designed clip I have seen (and I hate clips with a passion.)

May I suggest a smallish fixed blade by Don Cowles? He has a lot of stuff that is just gorgeous, and his sheaths come with a clip. Very artsy.

For a folder, though, I don't think you're going to do much better than a Mnandi. The Buck 172 is a great knife- one that I EDC-, but hardly what I'd call inconspicuous. Please let us know what you pick!!

Sheaths with clips... ok. I will check these out too along with Sante Fe and Mcusta. Going to go fix dinner, watch star trek - have to love those klingon knives........... And oh yeah I will let you know what I settle on.
Meanwhile still looking about.

If you need to make a statement - go with custom. It depends on how much is affordable for you but have a look at something like Barry Galakher doing:

Here his website - http://www.gallagherknives.com

also Ken Onion customs just gorgeus.

If this is too expensive - there is knives very good for dressing - William&Henry. It is almoste jewelry if you are talking about look. Hoever they also made from premium steel and most premium for today - ZDP-189.
---------------------------------------------------
Also any manufacturer has at least one model very nice looking like gentleman knife - I like Kershaw Black Chive, very affordable, but very nice:

Spyderco like Kiwi, I like Dragonfly also

I guess there is many others, many of Mcasta models will fit, Boker has HighTech Ceramic knives and CeramoTitanium knives:

also you may even choose very extravagant, exteremely well performing, authentic Japanese knives (and very affordable) - Higonokamy:

Hope it will help.

Thanks, Vassili.

NOZ thanks for the gallagher link. His work is stunning. It is beautiful and includes lots of materials, without being gawdy.

Id recommend the mnandi myself.

Those Gallagher knives would nake a statement alright. Be prepared to pay thousands of dollars for a knife like either one of those. If you can win a Ken Onion knife lottery at one of the shows you will get on for a reasonable price. If you purchase a damascus one on the secondary market, be prepared to pay a similar price to the Gallaghers.

This is neat... from the Gibeon Meteorite.
So that's a 4 billion yr old blade essentially::

The Willima Henry's are waay expensive along with the Galakher knives...
I'd be afraid to use one on something... as a working knife.. I bookmarked them anyway. Over the Holidays I work almost 7days days a week for two-three month's and always treat myself after coming out-of-the-fog.

I can see where "one" is never enough... LOL
