Hi guys!

I just showed up this knife as my todays EDC

IMG_0928.jpg

It´s a typical bavarian little fixed blade. Here you can get it on every weapon or hunting shop. Theese patterns are quiet popular here, most of the us carry it on the traditional clothing - Lederhosen or Dirndlgewand. As I´ve heard for guys from other countries theese clothing seems to be a little bit strange. But here it´s traditional. We wear it on weddings, or at any traditional days...

This one is made of 440C, and mirrorpolished. I like to carry it from time to time. He handle is stag, which is made of one piece, so it goes all over the handle. Unfortunately the tang is not very strong. No prying or something like this is allowed. But cutting is the perfect work for this little fellow.

Perhaps some of you guys have also a Nicker in the collection. Perhaps you can share it.

Here´s a size comparison in my hands

I hope you can enjoy the pics.

Kind regards

Andi,
thanks for showing this knife. Even though I'm not too far from Germany, I had never seen this pattern before, and discovering new things is always a nice thing.
This knife looks (to me) like something in between a kitchen/table knife and a pocket gentleman knife...it does look kind of weird to me, but also unique :)
Thanks for sharing

My mother-in-law (who is Czech) has one of those that was my wife's dad's when he was younger. Apparently he bought in in Eastern Germany under communism and used to carry it on their frequent camping trips and on his treks around Czechoslovakia on his Jawa motorcycle. I have his old Mikov folder, but she didn't want to get rid of the fixed blade knife just yet. It's a great size, and feels good in hand. Probably it'd be a bit light for batoning and all that other silly crap some folks around here do. But for a real world camping knife, it'd certainly fit the bill.

Andi.
I think the knife is quite interesting. How do you normally carry this knife. The sheath looks to only cover the blade and I guess is friction fit. Does the sheath have an attachment point on it? How does it attach to the traditional clothing? Do you just put it in your pocket when your not wearing the traditional clothing? I think the knife has Under Nicker etched on it.
Also, I was wondering if you have any photos of the Bavarian countryside you hike in. Thanks for sharing.

It really adds to this forum when we get the chance to see traditional knives from other countries. Thanks for taking the time to share your Linder Jagdnicker with us! That's a nice looking little knife.

Beatiful knife!
I'm curious about method of carry as well. The blade says 'under knicker'. Is it something like a slip knife or boot knife?

Hi guys!

Thank you all for the replies and the nice answers. Normally is this knife carried in the pants (which are made of leather). There´s a little pocket on the leg, there is the knife to put at.

Here you can see, a picture, where you can see there´s the traditional clothing, for which the knife is carried with

BTW: None of theese strange guys is me :D :D :D

On one of theese shorts, there is the pocket. On the sheath is no point to fix the knife. It can be lost very easily. Unfortunatelly! When I carry it on normal use, it fits in my jacket or the rucksack.

It is not called "under nicker" there´s a "L" and an "I", but it´s hardly to ready on the pic. So far, it´s called "Linder Nicker" which is etched on the blade. There are also patterns available with no mirrorpolished blades. Some are also available in Carbon Steel.

If have any other questions, please ask!

I hope, you guys enjoyed watching the thread and the pics.

Kind regards
Andi

Nice addition to our knife diet thank you!

Looks like a good dress pattern too.

I think it would make a very handy food knife on picnics and hikes .

Hi, well willgoy, you´re right. The Nicker is no knife for heavy duty. But for picknick or eating a typical bavarian meal it´s perfect.

Kind regards

Hello Andi - Nice knife - would like to have one some day! Thanks for the pictures! Bavarian meal as in sauerbraten, rouladen, schnitzel or Nuremburger Bratwurst, Kartoffel Kloese, or Spaetzle? Rotkraut (Blaukraut)? You are making me hungry just thinking about it....

Well, newadventure, we call it Blaukraut. In other bavarian countries it´s called Rotkraut. You seem to be very good informed about good meals. If you want try Blutwurst (bloodsausages) or Leberwurst (Liversausage) and Sauerkraut. A lot of Kraut we have here ... So called Krauts ;) It´s good making you hungry on our food.

I think we should move that discussion in the "food & drinking"-Forum.

A little bit OT, but that´s what the knife is used for, so we come back to the thread´s original discussion.

Kind regards
Andi

I love seeing traditional knives from other places. It would be nice to have a thread where these knives from all over can be added. Could become a good reference.
