Hello guys

I'm about to order a linder solingen 176125 Bowie knife. My question is regarding the steel it is made of, 440a. I can see that it is vacuum furnace heat treat followed by a cryogenic treatment.

Anyone has experience with this brand and their 440a steel?

Regards Mick

Are you looking at it as a user or to put in a collection? For a collector, steel is unimportant, except for bragging rights. 440A is nothing really to brag about. That said, if heat-treated properly, 440A is pretty tough, for a stainless steel. Where you might find it lacking is in edge-holding. But an awful lot of good blades have been made in Solingen, and Linder has been around a long time. They know a thing or two about steel, and what to do with it. I wouldn't be too concerned about the build quality, pretty typical German attention to details.

I like the Linder Kentucky Bowie, myself...
