Hi All,
I received a new knife today. It has a line straight across the blade. Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks

I'd guess tooling mark from the satin applied finish, but just a guess as I'm no knife maker.

Did you get new? Cause it has some scratches on the pivot screw also, the mark is pretty straight to be made by use, but you could shed more light so we can give more info

Hi,
Thanks. I did get it new and put on the new scales. The pivot scratch might be from that, but I’m positive the blade wasn’t scratched when I did this. The mark doesn’t really look like a scratch from my angles, but more of a discolouration.

Looks to me like when a frayed strand from a sanding belt whips around and contacts your workpiece, if it happened during the finishing stages it probably would not sanded out.
I got this same kind of line on a knife I was making today, but luckily I still had some grinding to do

Repaired? It’s a couple of scratches. You could polish them out, but you’d have to polish the rest of the blade.

If it bothers you send it back. It’ll bug you every time you look at it if you don’t. If it was my knife, I’d just use it and put my own scratches on the blade from use.

Unless you bought it as a collectors piece (probably not since you changed the scales), I too would just use it. It wouldn't bother me on a personal edc type knife at all. I sure wouldn't send ya one that away, but if it was my own knife I'd probably already have more scratches on it.
