Lined sheath question

So I would like to try doing a lined sheath, most of the ones I have seen have the lining curled over the top and sewn, but can I just "glue" the lining(deerskin in this case) into the leather without wrapping it over the top edge? Does it have to be sewn in?
Thanks for any help!

Daniel, If you just want to do a flat lining, the best way I've found is to just block cut your main pattern and then using really good adhesive (contact cement etc.) cement the block cut lining material flesh to flesh, and when it has set up then cut out the true pattern. This gives you perfect fit with good straight and true edges all the way around. If the cementing is done properly it is rarely necessary to stitch around the mouth of the sheath, and the normal side seams take care of the rest of it. Good Luck
