Linen vs. Canvas Micarta Scales

I am considering buying a knife kit from knifekits.com and am looking at the delta 5 drop point knife. I want it for tactical purposes so I don't want a wooden handle. I am trying to decide between the linen and the canvas micarta scales. I have never had either on any of my knives and I don't know what the difference is between the two.
 
Hard to describe without seeing, however the canvas micarta has coarser threads through it, while linen micarta is much finer.

I've found that linen is softer feeling than canvas, however the word is that canvas is more resilient. The Busse forums has pictures of the linen micarta up for the newly released blade if you are interested.
 
linen micarta is usually very smooth, unless patterned, and is easily mistaken for wood.

canvas, as coldone said, is much coarser, and provides a more positive grip, especially when wet.

micarta in general is very tough stuff. oil resistant, fire resistant, and a tensil strength greater than most metals.
 
Thanks for the response guys. So, it sounds like if I'm going to make a knife like the one below then I should probably use canvas micarta for the better grip and ruggedness.

Actually, Nomad, those kits look pretty cool! I like the skinner a lot. Hey, post some pics when you are finished, and tell us how you like it. For the price, you really can't go wrong. If you recommend it, I may buy a couple. Reminds me of my first knife, which was a bowie kit similar to those.
 
Hey Rocky, both linen and canvas micarta are VERY durable. I actually prefer the looks of the linen, but the canvas has an edge with grip. I don't think you would be dissapointed with either. Good luck.
 
Yeah knifeman, I really like the linen too. I won't be ordering for another couple of weeks so I'll think about it. Thanks to all for the input.

One last dilemma. The delta 5 tactical knife I am wanting to make does not come with a sheath. I know nothing about sheath making and would just like a kydex sheath. Any one have any suggestions?
