Hello every1 I just bought my first Emerson a CQC 7 Mini Wave and have a little problem with the liner lock not engaging all the way. It will only engage the very edge of the liner lock. Also when I open the knife I can feel it rub against the liner.

My sister's CQC-7 had a similar issue where it touched the liner. I took the knife apart, reassembled it and tightened the pivot. The issue went away.

As for the lock engagement, I agree with others. Wave the knife or flick it open a few dozen times. The liner lock will engage more securely.

Most Emerson's have two ball detents. One of them may be sprung too far out and causing the blade to rub. Disassemble. You can carefully bend the detent with the tip of a screw driver. It doesn't take much!

I bought a 7 a few days ago that was scraping the sides. I took it apart to clean it and it was fine after I reassembled. I suggest doing that before sending it in, I'm sure it will be fine.

Well I took everyones advise and took the knife down. That seemed to fix the lock problem and it also fixed the blade rub a little but it still will rub if I push to hard when opening. I also sent a email to Emerson with pictures to see what they will say.

had the same problem
take the knife apart wedge some carbborad between the blade and handle to center it
tork all the body screws down then tork the pivit
it worked great for me=) then repeat over the next few weeks as it breaks in

I will try that and see if it helps more. Also what is the small detent for? I see a little hole on the blade where the detent looks like it goes but not sure.

I don't quite understand why this extra shimming between the blade and liner is necessary.

There are Teflon washer on each side of the blade that are enough of a spacer to the liners. If you tighten up the pivot to the point where the blade is centered and it happens to be too tight, well then, it needs to be broken in with some action and several hundred openings and closings. It WILL wear in and become smoother.

I've purchased many second hand Emersons that were in as new condition where the sellers most always had the pivot screw loose to the point the blade was almost touching the liner when closed just to have a smooth action. That's not right.

The only solution is to tighten up the pivot screw to attain a centered blade and work it. After several hundred openings, take it apart, clean it and very lightly lube the pivot and washers on all four sides.

Aside from this, which I doubt, the blade is bent and should be returned for replacement. Additional shims are not necessary.

Yes, the ball detents (there is one on each side of the blade, one on each liner) fit into the tiny hole in the blade. This prevents the blade from swinging open when in the folded position.

These ball detents also create a circular channel in the blade as the blade is open and closed. This happens during the break-in period. The grit (blade coating) produced from this wear needs to be cleaned/removed and lubed in this area after several hundred openings for a smoother action thereafter.

the shims are not to be left in they are just to be used to center the blade wile you are torking the screws

My CQC7 was rough at first , now it is smooth as booter. Everyone's advice has been great.

Open and use , close , repeat. Oil a bit , or WD40 , use compressed air to blow out the dirty gunk , wipe off and continue using. That is if you dont want to take your blade apart.
