How far across the blade tang is too much wear for a liner lock. A couple of mine are about half way across or maybe a little more. At what point should I have Emerson adjust/repair it?

I'm not speaking from too much experience, but I do have a dozen or so Emerson production knives. Each of them are liner lock, and the liner travels anywhere from all the way to the right side of the tang, to all the way to the left side of the tang. BUT, in every instance the liner is fully engaged, and does not travel any further than either side of the tang, and the liner is never partially engaged. If the liner does travel to far examine how centered the blade is when closed, try "bending" the knife with slight pressure to center the blade, this may also effect how far the liner travels. OR another member suggests to clean the tang with cotton swabs and gun cleaner to remove any oil or lubrication that may be causing the liner to travel too far.

Thanks, so I guess it's safe to say, as long as it locks up tight and there's no blade play, don't worry about it until it wears to the point it's almost off the far edge.

my cqc 13 travels far when I open it with as much force as I can possible muster. On one occation it traveled so the liner was almost half off of the tang (but the liner is thicker than the rest of my knives) At that point I put on a cut glove (I work in a restaurant) and wraped my hand in a towell for extra protection. I then proceeded to spine whack the living sh*t out of the knife against a stainless steel table (the knife has seen a lot of use so I wasn't worried about marking up the blade). The liner lock did not fail, or show any indication that it would fail...
SO, I would say yes, do not worry about it unless it wears to the point it's almost off the far edge.

Both of my Emersons have a lot of travel in the Tang. As previously stated, I've seen it engage all the way to the far side of the blade. My rule of thumb is as long as it engages, and there is no blade play, and I can also disengage it, I'm OK for the time being. When the blade doesn't feel locked up, that's when I'll send it in.

Aren't the Liners on most of the Emerson's Titanium?

FWIW i have seen EKI's that engaged all the way to the far side and still locked up just fine, i sure dont like that though.

what i do is LIGHTLY whack the open locked blade on carpet/etc to see if its locking up ok, if it passes i gen'ly dont worry about how far it goes to the side, ya have to keep an eye on them though, it may be ok at one point and move .00010 and then not engage right. gen'ly though if the pass the whack test they are ok for a while, usually.

EKI offers a fast turnaround and does an excellent job repairing them though.

only expense is shipping, if its a pretty new knife they pay to ship it back to ya, if not ya have to pay.

other than that, nothing.
