Liner locks? Frame Locks? What are they? ...

First of all, thanks to you guys for being kind enough to answer my many questions! :)

I'm trying to learn the different kinds of locking mechanisms, and their strengths/weeknesses.

I've seen and handled a liner lock knife. And I played with a Benchmade with an Axis lock (boy does that product seem well made!). But what is a frame lock?

What are the advantages of these different locking mechanisms!

Any explanations, pics, and pointers to more info MUCH appreciated!

Thanks very much again!

I'm sure that someone will get to some pics before me but a framelock is essentially a very thick liner lock without a scale/handle.

Examples of framelocks: Kershaw Chive, CRK Sebenza, Ed Halligan/CRK&T's KISS Knife.

I gotta take a typing class I'm too damn slow everybody beat me to the punch.:(

Well at least ya got some quick and accurate answers.:)

some really good framelocks are made reeves (sebenza), strider (sng), hinderer (firetac), and martin (avenger).

I very much prefer the Integral lock found on the aforementioned CRK folders. I feel complete confidence in said locking system when I'm carrying and using either my small Sebbie or my Mnandi. No chopped-off fingers here. :D

Framelocks are my absolute favorite knives overall. Here are a couple more pictures as I think the KISS is a bad example of a framelock
