Liner v. Axis Lock...Applications?

OK without getting into which one is better, is there a difference in applications for liner or axis locks, or are they meant for the same thing (combat), but merely just a different philosophy to go about it (i.e. slide v. frame mounted safety on pistols)?

I'm not sure what I will be using my knife for, or should I, as my wise dad always says, "Can't decide? Get both."

I doubt there's a difference in application, refer to the other thread that you've started.
There are other locks that can be just as strong, and they are good for many purposes.
If the knife was utility only, it's unreasonable to expect that because the axis lock is better served in a combat knife, we shouldn't use it on a utility knife.
IMO a lock should be on any folding knife. It's like insurance.
