Liner wear?

Have heard of Emersons suffering premature liner wear. I have a CQC 7 2001 and a Specwar 2001 in my EDC rotation. What can I expect? I would characterize my usage as daily moderate hard use.

Old Forum tales. Emerson liners are strong and last. Besides if you ever do wear it out just send it back and they will replace it for free.

I got an old Commander in a trade that had been used hard by many previous owners. The liner lock had some play. I sent it to Emerson and even though I wasn't the original owner they replaced the liner for nothing more than the shipping.

Use your Emersons, that's what they were made for.

the EKI's do occasionally have lock probs, as do all locking liner knives, in my experience the wave might accelerate wear, maybe a little, the only one i have had probs with was a commander, EKI fixed it in 10 days or so for free, so no biggie imho.

i wouldnt worry about it, they normally run fine no matter how ya use them, i have had about 15 EKI's and only one old tired commander ever had probs

My only Emerson knife is a Commander that I bought in 2000. After not much use at all, and no abuse, I started to notice some lock problems. They only got worse over time. I also noticed that the lock bar wore a lot faster than on my other knives, that I have used much more. I was able to see a notch getting worn into the lock bar as the knife was opened and closed.

I sent the knife into Emerson, and got a new liner and new blade. I just got it back so I don't know if it will wear fast again, or be more lasting. Anyway I wouldn't really hesitate much to buy another knife from Emerson if one caught my eye.

I agree with just about all the opinions here.

Pre-2000/2001 EKI liners wore out pretty fast.

Current EKI liners seem to wear from 50% lockbar engagement to 50% across the tang (i.e. from the left side of the tang to halfway across the tang in a matter of months) but seem to sit at halfway for a while. They still wear much more quickly than SS liners (duh) and somewhat faster than other Ti liners I've seen.

I don't know why.

Use them. If you get enough wear so it hits the opposite liner, send it back and for the cost of shipping she'll come back with a new liner, lickity-split.

That's what I do...
