Gang- Would you buy a linerless Sodbuster-like folder? I have been working on this for awhile now and it just might happen.
As you know, I really enjoy my Case Mako and my Bucklites and these folders do not have the handle liners.

The Case carbon fiber is liner less and I bought one:D IT does make them slimmer and easier to pocket carry!

How do you like the CF Sodbuster. Any blade play? Does it feel like it would hold up under moderate use?

Lycosa, what you need to do is convince Buck to make the Ecolite 112 available with a drop point blade.

I got lucky enough to get one like this from Sitflyer. This is using the 442 blade. Not far from the classic sodbuster profile. The Ecolites are partial liners with the liners extending only a very small distance. Makes for a very light nice with absolutely the best feel in hand of any knife I own.

I'm trying to convince Case to do a sprint-run on a linerless Sodbuster.
I guess I could be a pita with Buck Knives too. :D
Nice Buck folder there. Thanks for the pix.

The Case carbon fiber is a good solid knife, no blade play, great walk&talk and came shaving sharp. I've carried it a few times and feel it would hold up to regular use like any of their other sodbusters.

Arrgh I really wish I didn't read this thread...the Case CF soddie is on my wish list and might move to the "To Be Ordered" column

With the Outlaw Jack coming out, plus my spree on Saturday (2 Case, 1 Bulldog), pre-ordered Lanny's Clip, BF Traditional ,Kershaw and everything I got in August I should be good til 2013 :D

Speaking of Buck, I really wish they'd do the Boy Scouts Bucklite again. Used ones sell at a ridiculous price, if they did them again I'd buy 4, one for each of the family, plus a Cub Scout version in blue just 'cause.

That's the thing, for basic cutting, who needs the liners?

Right. You don't.

Yes, there is something... I dunno... substantial and comforting with the weight of a heavy knife. Carrying my 110 today (and seeing my chiropractor later this week to fix the resulting list!!).

But really, if I'm sitting down for some whittling, I want my Ecolite in hand. The combination of girth, width, finger grooves and light weight produce a knife that disappears into my hand. Very similar to the Opinels in that regard.

Duane, its a truly wonderful knife and I really mean it, Buck should be making it.

Zippofan, as I understand it, the Bucklites of old are going, going, gone. You can get the old classic ones on the Buck's web special page for short money, but as I understand it (could be very wrong on this) the line has been replaced by the thinner Bucklite Max line and the Ecolite line.

If I were Buck, I would be pushing the Ecolites for custom "make ups" like they did with the old Bucklites. I think the Paperstone is just a massive improvement over the old plastic handles. Very light, great feel and looks so much better.

If done in micarta or G10 (or CF), it'd be great. Zytel should be OK also. I already have a handful of linerless shadow patterns from A.G. Russell in his 'Rucarta', and they're as rigid and strong as can be (especially with heavy stainless pivot hardware).

Only downside would be the added cost of producing them in micarta/G10/CF. I'm sure they'd be considerably more expensive, done that way.

I do like the Paperstone a lot, I gave my son a Buck Vantage with that handle, nice and lightweight, tough to take the abuse a 14 y/o can give.

I was doing some research on the Bucklite/Scoutlite, Buck only made them for a couple of years for the BSA, plus they did other organizations like the Royal Rangers and colleges etc.

If Buck ever made them again I know a bunch of dads that would be getting them for their Scout sons. I'm always asked about a good lockback for 11-12 year olds and the current official BSA back lock knives just aren't that nice, equal to gas station folders with the BSA emblem on them :thumbdn: I always recommend the Case Mini-Blackthorn but they don't want to spend a lot of money.

Come to think of it, I don't have that Case, how did I miss that?!?

Lycosa, sorry for the drift....

Zippofan, if you dug the old Bucklites, you owe it to yourself to put one of these in your hands...

It's very close to the old Bucklites, only better in the hand (at least to me). The Ecolite 112.

With some desperate hope to tie this back to Lycosa's OP, you can see just how short the partial liners are in this shot.

Thanks Guys. All good info.
No apologies needed. This is knife talk.
Does anyone have an AG Russell Brute?
Way to go, Bemo. I'd buy two too.

I can see now I'll be ordering a CF Sod Buster and an Ecolite 110 and 112. I really need to quit reading these threads. lol

That's the model I was thinking about, in the mention of A.G. Russell shadow patterns in my earlier reply. I have two; one in black, and the other in A.G.'s 'Coral' (red) Rucarta. ATS-34 blades on both, with very thick spines (3/16" or so), and full hollow grind to a thin, great-slicing edge. The thick spine allows for deep nail nicks on both sides of the blade, which can be thumbed open like a one-hander.

Here are a couple pics of the black one:
