I know that the handle on the Raven is one of the hallmarks of that particular model, but if one decided they wanted to put on some custom micarta scales, how would the nested liners be to work with? Could you simply install the scales without nesting the liners? My Raven won't be here until Thursday, so I don't have one "in hand" to try and figure this out. Thoughts?

Hi!

I think that the problem is that the synthetic scales shape doesn't exactly match the liners shape, if you mean "nested liners" and refer to the liners edges being covered by the scale material then i think it's necessary(didn't find nested in my mental dictionary, guess i've to study more English

Hope that i helped some and please if you make any scales post some nice photos!

Oh, by the way, the scales are very comfy on the Raven series!

Thanks, Jonas. That was a great point about the liners not being the same size as the scales. I didn't think of that. Hmmmm. I'm going to have to think this one over when I get the Raven. I wonder if I can inlay the liners in micarta.

The Raven arrived today. I'm very pleased with it! The handle material is much "tougher" looking than I had anticipated, and I'm no longer interested in changing it. At first glance I was wishing that the thumb stud was centered in the handle cut-out, but it works great right where it is. Nice knife!

I am currently putting micarta slabs on a Raven.
I don't have any real power tools so I began by inletting the liners into the scales by first, scribing around the liner, then removing the area with a dremel (wearing a respirator)
I back drilled through the holes in the liners and counter sunk the holes.
I plan to do the same thing for the pile side of the knife and then profile the handle after I have screwed it onto the knife. By then I hope to have my Grizzly grinder!
I will post pics of it when I'm finished.

Just when I thought I was satisfied...

I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished product, Tony.

Paul, the biggest thing that bothered me about my Raven is the location of the thumb disk in the cut-out and after getting a knifehead modified AFCK I decided to fix that problem. I'm having alot of fun with it and I plan to do some more work. I've scored some really cool looking Carbon Fiber and want to do some tweeking to a BM Stryker as well.
I'll share the results.

Hello!

Me too doesn't like the location of the thumbstud, but isn't it neccessery to remove material from the scales if you move it?? it's quite close to the scales edge when open isn't it??
Of course if you're fixing new scales then it's not a problem...
