Hi guys,

First question I haven't found an answer for without the aid of the search function!

I was just wondering what the purpose of a liner was. Are they just for looks or do they actually do something useful?

Thanks a million,
Matt.

Well, let's see.

On a linerlock, why there's a liner should be obvious.

On an Axis or lockback, when there's a liner, the handle is usually not made of metal. This should tell you why it's there...

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking more about the liners that you see on fixed blades, with a wooden handle. I just cant think of a reason for them apart from aesthetics.

You shouldn't see liners on fixed blades. The wooden handles should be bolted directly onto the tang.
