Lining a mini-forge? (Zoeller design)

Yep, decided to fabricate a mini-forge very similiar to Larry Zoeller's.(thanks Larry for sharing your knowledge on the webpage) Appears the inside is lined either with Kaowool, fiberfrax, etc. I'm looking around trying to find some 1" insulation blanket. Anyone have any for sale? Second question: Do you use any type of adhesive on the insulation to adhere it to the side of the forge? If so, what is the acceptable adhesive? I notice a dry form of kiln cement available for sealing cracks and chips in kiln walls. It mixes for a smooth plastic consistency. Appears to me that I could probably use this kiln cement to adhere the insulation to the metal wall and then coat the exterior of the insulation as well. To anybody in the know or has made one of these--does what I have outlined sound feasible? I'd appreciate any help on these few items.--thanks, Dan:cool:

No adhesive is required. Cut to length and push it in.

Coatings will help the life of the kawool, Itc-100 will increase the effiecency, remember it is a consumabble, and will need to be replaced occasionaly.

I have one I use about the size of a freon can, venturi design, which reaches welding heat.
I like it
:D

Ummm, aren't you supposed to coat the wool with something similar to ITC-100 to prevent the ceramic fibers from flying out and finding their way into your lungs?? I ordered some stuff K&G calls slurry. Comes in 5 pound bags for $10. Gonna slop it all over my forge lining. Those lung eatin fibers scare me!

Can you put the address for the forge you made? You said that the person who gave you advice has a webpage of it:)

mikes,
How big a freon can did you use? By venturi, do you mean there is no blower? Thanks.

Michael,

the tribute for the mini-forge I use goes to Mr. Zoeller, his site is http://www.geocities.com/zoellerforge/miniforge.html. I had a machine shop make mine and then lined the inside with 1" koawool. I've seen a lot of guys indicate that MAPP gas was the best to use to get to a welding heat, but honestly, I was disappointed with MAPP and used Propane. Wow, it got the blade to marsenite in a few minutes! hope this works for you--Dan
