Lining for Knife Boxes

As I make a new knife, I want to make a custom box for presenting it to the client. A recent knife that I made included a box, featuring chip-carved initials of the recipient, but all I could think about using to hold the knife and line it was styrofoam with the profile of the knife cut into the foam and then covering it with suede material. My problem was that when I used white glue, the glue did not set up, but using a hot glue gun melted the styrofoam. I finally got something to work, but it is not what I wanted to achieve. Does anyone have any suggestions? What would be the best materials for shaping the contour of the knife that would not melt? Any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance..........Rodney

The 20 to 30 Minute epoxies don't disolve most of the foams. Try on a scrap first.

Thanks, y'all for the suggestions. What I did tonight is cut the contour of the knife out in a 1/2" piece of yellow poplar, install an earth magnet to stabilize the blade where it rests on the flat area, and using fabric glue my wife had to glue the suede lining in place. Looks like it is gonna work. I'll post photos as soon as I am finished, probably in the next couple days. Thanks again......Rod

Hey Rod..

You can also use Felt Flocking....

Simple to use.. simply paint the part you want flocked,, and pump chopped felt flock onto the painted part...Let dry and you have crushed velvet...

Looks really nice..
I use to put it inside of bronze baby shoes I made..
