question for Paul Long, what weight is the liner you used in the video for the basic sheath? Where do you purchase the material? Thanks Travis

Travis in the basic pouch sheath it is approximate 2/3 oz Deer skin. I buy my deer skin from Warden leathers in New York. 518 332 1016 is the phone umber and I deal with Brad.

The liner in the advanced blade sheath is the same Wickett&Craig skirting split to 2/3 oz at the tannery.

Paul, thanks for the quick reply, and i apologize for the late call the other night. Thanks for talking to me and I have tried to spread the word about your DVDs. Travis

Paul, I am wondering if the skirting leather is a better quality than the Tooling/Holster/Carving from W&C? I prefer the shoulder but W&C never seems to stock it.
Thanks
Mike

Mike, I really can not address the quality vs quality of the skirting and the tooling leathers, because I use only really use the skirting. The last time (about a year ago) I used any of the tooling leather I was greatly disappointed when, by comparison, it did not oil up and finish out even close to as nice as the skirting.

I use the exact same leather is now five colors ( russet, chestnut, brown, black and havana) and two split weights (7/8 and 2/3) and get very satisfactory and uniform results. It is all the skirting leather. It also seems to have more "body" than the tooling leather.

The one and only advantage I can possibly see in shoulders is that they are trimmed out a little better and are smaller square footage than a full side hence less expensive over all, but they do cost more per square foot.

Paul
