Hello,

I’m about to receive a couple of early 1900’s printers cabinets that I’ll be using to display and store my knives.

Somewhere here I remember reading something potentially negative about using felt for this as it might attract moisture into it and against the knife?

Please let me know if you believe there are cons to any of these materials for this use.

Velvet
Felt
Suede

Thanks in advance to any responses!

For the past ~5 years here in the humid, rainy Pacific Northwest I've stored my knives in a wooden chest with felt-lined drawers, with little desiccant packets in each drawer. I've never had any problems with the felt attracting moisture, nor with corrosion.

Silicon cloth is what i use, easy to mold and cut as you need. Gives a protective layer from corrosion.

I do collect vintage SAK as a hobby, and just a very friendly word of caution--I have seen felt/velvet material bleed color onto SAK scales in the past, which they were originally on display for many years from a store. SAKs plastic scale are pretty stable yet it still happened, so I probably would be cautious about the material I put the knives in contact with.
