I just completed my first sheath for a fillet knife. Problem is that the knive has a big curve to it . I've wet molded the sheath, but the knife is cutting into the leather. Is there a way to line the inside of the sheath, and what material would you use to do this?
Thanks guys

If it's cutting leather - I don't know what would work?
Kydex?
Most lining is soft like - so the knife would cut into it also.....
If you wet formed it - that probably made the sheath tighter and could be some of the problem?
See what others have to say?

I don't have any good links right now, but you should look up how to make a wood lined sheath.

I assume that your fillet knife is stainless steel which might pick up some wear from a harder lining but you might have luck with a balsa wood or cork lining. Also, a good hot wax treatment on the wood may help the blade to slide in better without catching.

Also, you should pay attention to the opening of your sheath. A good sheath should have an opening that helps the user adjust the angle of the blade as it slides into the sheath so as not to cut into the sides of the sheath.

I hope that helps.

A knife that has a tip that curves above the line of the handle is a bear to do a sheath and prevent cutting through. Have to be really careful to allow room at the throat for the tip to ride down the inside. I would do a butterfly style that has the welt coming all the way around the blade and lets the tip follow the welt down. I do a line of sheaths that have a kydex liner with leather outer that solves this problem, too.
