How do you change the name of a link. When I last did this I clicked on the insert link icon and two windows opened one for the link and one to change the words. Now I only get one window, insert link. I use Safari.
Thanks

There's a choice of three different text editors here -- if things look different it's probably because you changed editors without intending to.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.... With the editor I use you can make a hyperlink by first typing in what you want to show in the post. Then highlight that and click the hyperlink icon and put the url in the box.

I usually skip all that & do it the hard way:

[ url= ] name of the link [ /url ]

(leave off the spaces inside the square brackets)

Esav, if you're putting a url where you put "name of the link" you're wasting your time writing code around it; the system will do that automatically as long as you don't put an extra period at the end to confuse it. That works no matter which editor you use.

I think the question is about how to do a true hyperlink, such as Cable News Network instead of the simple www.cnn.com

[ url=www.cnn.com ]Cable News Network[ /url ].

It's still the hard way, but I've been doing it so long, partly because not all forums I've used have the same system. This seems to work everywhere.

Exactly what I mean. I don't have the hyperlink icon just insert link icon.

Go to your User Control Panel, Edit Options, and scroll down to the bottom. You have a choice of three editors ... wait a minute. You've found an icon that says "insert link" when you mouse over it? That's the one. Highlight Cable News Network and then click that icon and put www.cnn.com in the box that pops up.

slice&dice, with your current browser, try what Cougar suggested:

1) Copy your URL to your clipboard.
2) Type the name of your link where you want it in the composition box.
3) Mouse over the name of your link to highlight it.
4) Click on Insert Link & when it comes up, paste your URL in there & click OK.

You should now have a hyperlink to the name of your link.

Not really. It can be hard to focus on some of these procedures, especially when you get one system in mind, another can throw you at first.

So running through it a couple of times, rewording the instructions, will generally get to an understandable version.

Sorry we aren't professional writers documenting the software! :D

sorry esav, that does look a little curt on rereading it :o. and by no stretch of the imagination am i any kind of expert when it comes to computers :D . it's just that it felt like you guys were making it more complicated than it needed to be and that the way you explained it would have left me confused if i was still trying to learn it. of course, if i tried to explain it to someone else i'd probably leave them scratching their head as well :).
