Links to BFC Threads Not Working The Same As Before

Lately, I've noticed that links to BFC threads send me to a different URL.

An example is a thread Esav linked recently to a GB&U thread. Here is the URL:

http://216.26.177.84/forums/showthread.php?t=467003

Note that the site name is now numerical, and this site asks that I log-in even though I can view the thread.

I noticed the same thing with a link to a thread posted in Community. It took me to this numerical URL which requested a log-in.

Any info here would be appreciated. Not a big deal since I can view the threads, but the fact that I was no longer logged in (on the linked thread) made me scratch my head.

Is this a result of the search function now generating a different URL?

Why the two different URLs?

Not sure why our ip address is showing instead of the URL. Will check on it

Spark, I think both instances were cases where the poster created some linked text.

Don't know if that makes any difference.

Both examples were in a subforum to which I cannot link here.

I'll PM you the two posts in question.

Whenever that happens to me I replace the IP address with www.bladeforums.com and then hit enter and I can see the thread no problem.

I also notice that if I'm logged into www.bladeforums.com sometimes I get linked to threads that are just bladeforums.com with no "www" in front of them and they seem to need logged in there also.

I just stick with the www sub-domain of bladeforums.com

The numeric IP addresses are a leftover from before the new "bladeforums.com address" had propagated through the internet after the server change. I suspect that some people bookmarked BFC as such and never bothered changing it afterwards.

Mark I'm not so sure as I had/have already updated my BFC bookmarks and yet I've had a couple/three instances of this same thing happen to me. It wasn't a biggie though as all I did was login again and everything was copacetic. :D
It wasn't all that long ago that it happened but everything has been okay the last week or so IIRC.

I think it doesn't depend on your bookmarks, Yvsa, but the bookmarks of the person who posted the link. If they link to a thread (or post) that they are viewing as http://206.154.xxx.xxx/forums... then when you click that link (from the correct bladeforums.com address) you are taken to a mirror site which you may or may not be logged into.

I don't know if it applies here, but when I tried to click on this thread from my user cp, I received a broken link notice from Google (I'm using Chrome).
