Some neat looking stuff there. Are those CRKT models in the first and second pictures also manufactured by Linton? Looks like they make stuff for some other major brand names as well. It makes sense, there are only a couple major knife manufacturers in Taiwan making all the stuff we see over here.

Linton Cutlery Co. does NOT manufacture CRKT or any other name brand of knives.

Linton Cutlery Co. currently manufacture products exclusively under the label of "LINTON" with arthropod logo. Their product line includes Strider Knives knock-offs, TOPS Knives knock-offs, Ontario Knives knock-offs, Knight's Armament Co. knock-offs, and several items (double edged blades, push daggers) that are illegal in Taiwan where they are located.

Due to their poor business ethics, Linton Cutlery Co. has earned an exceedingly bad reputation in Taiwan and has found it increasingly difficult to do business locally. This bad reputation has begun to spread rapidly internationally as well.

hkcathk:

You have gone out of your way to expose this company so I will ask you: Did you confront them at the last knife show?? Or any of your members for that matter?? Thanks

Mr. hkcathk,

I'm having some technical trouble getting this web-a-photo thing to work on Netscrape. I can't see the pictures. I tried it with InternetExploder and it works better. This is just another case of a website that's gotten so fancy with its scripts and html that it doesn't work reliably.

The bottom line here is that the web-a-photo thing is getting in the way of your message.

You'd be much better off if you'd get your own website and then just stick with simple html code. It's not hard to do and costs about $10 a month. Drop me an e-mail and I can hook you up with some options.

Gollnick: We will attempt to have a website up and running soon w/ text and pictures, in the format you suggested. Thanks for your advice. Meanwhile, Forumites, please try viewing our pictures on the free image hosting website.

I want to hear some more gossip about what happened at the show!?!?!:D

Not much happened while I was there (Friday)...

Here's a pic of the very Steve Ryan-esque knives they had on display...

standard

I picked up one of the folders and found it to be extremely difficult to close. I quickly put it down and left their table once I recognized the name...as a Strider owner and fan I am quite disgusted...

The knives on the left and in the middle are Linton's knock-offs of the Knight's Armament Co. folding knives which are distinct for their hexagonal thumb hole and pointed butt for pommel strikes. Website: http://knightsknife.com

And the two knives on the far right are Strider Knives folder knock-offs.

A few of our members who have spent time thoroughly handling multiple specimens of Linton's folders at the store have confessed that they were very poorly finished, uncomfortable to hold or use, and do not function smoothly/properly.

Dear Forumites,

We are still working on a webpage but have also begun to upload our pictures onto Yahoo!. The disadvantage with Yahoo! is that you can not view the pictures at full size but it's better than nothing. Please bear with us as we work out these technical difficulties.

I can't really tell from the pictures but does Linton put proprietary company names and trademark features (e.g. Spyderhole) on their knives? If they do, then I would consider them "knock offs" and loathesome.

However, I'm less critical of them if they are merely "look a likes" or mock ups. Then it is imitation rather than duplication. I'm not sure if some of you understand the difference?

I consider "knock offs" as counterfeits complete with ripped off logos and trademarks -- this is a crime since this is misleading and even an expert would have trouble telling a difference. "Look a likes", on the other hand, are just clones and their main crime is trying to ride the coattails of an already established product -- this is unethical but not a crime IMO. It's like having an IBM clone computer rather than a real IBM.

I'm not defending Linton or companies like it. However, I'd like to know all the facts before I join an angry mob to go down to a knife show to kick over their table!

I agree with you FTC but a large number of forumites do not make this distinction.
Be prepared to suffer their wrath presently.

Additionally, I'm not yet convinced this whole thing isn't a ploy of one manufacturer to hamper the sales of another.

I don't know if this constitutes copying "trademark features." Judge for yourself...

I gotta admit (to the photo above) that those two knives are awfully close. If the writing on the bottom one says, STRIDER on it, then it's a forgery and I'll join ya all to go kick over their table!

I guess it's ultimately up to a court to decide whether it is copyright or trademark infringement.

I'm no stranger to taking the "wrath" at this forum, averageguy. :( Sometimes you just gotta stand alone and take the heat (Mad Max, Gary Cooper in High Noon, Shane, The Fonz...)

I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. I mean, clones -- with Linton stamped on them -- are not such a big deal since most of us here at the BladeForums wouldn't buy them any way so it's a non factor. Therefore, why get upset about something that's not going to affect us; right? Whereas, dupes and counterfeits (with ripped off trademarks) could fool a lot of us into buying them and thinking we have a real Strider, or Spyderco...when in fact we have a counterfeit.

On your second point, I kind of get that feeling too that these warnings may have motives behind them that go beyond altruism.

We just received a couple of very humorous pictures from a member, who is a well-known chef in Kowloon. We hope this adds a little levity to this discussion.
