What can anyone tell me about Linton knives in general? Found a Sea Otter on Ebay for something like 70 bucks in S30v steel. NIB and looks like a helluva knife for the price. Not much into tanto points on fixed blades but maybe could overlook that for this price. Has black micarta scales, decent sheath and the last 2" or so are serrated. Almost 12" overall length. Keepem sharp and thanks

You base your opinion on what? Would like to know facts. If you are talking about copying patented/copy righted products let me know. If it is because you own one or two and they did not perform well I am all ears. This knife is being sold through Michigan Knives and they seem like an alright company to me from what I could find out. keepem sharp

I found a huge one for $100. I has a flat ground blade with a sinister shape. The blade is smooth with a good lock up aand grip. The salesman said that Linton had worked for a major custom knife maker.

A quick Google Image Search will satisfy your curiosity.

Sounds like a bit of salesman's BS to me. This salesman didn't happen to mention the custom knifemaker's name did he?

Linton started out in the industry by ripping off the designs of Strider. I can not comment on the quality of their knives since I will have nothing to do with companies that do business in this way.

Uhmm ok they rip off Strider designs. Haven't seen enough of the work to realize that. Then again I figure everyone copies everyone else in the industry and just about all other areas too. If it ain't patented I guess it is fair game hence the dropped hunter design every knife make does. keepem sharp

If you like the knife then shop around I saw a Strider knockoff at the Gun show for like 12 dollars. If you don’t think there is a difference between the real thing and a fake then just get the cheapest out there. Let us know how the blade holds up.

If it is patanted, then it "ain't" fair game, don't you think?
And, based on principles of respect and honor, isn't it unethical to profit from an idea as if you invented it, when you know it is the creation of someone else?
That's the point... Ripping off others' ideas when patented is flat-out illegal (albeit difficult to enforce), and ripping off others' ideas when not patented is just plain sleazy.

Peace.

I probably should have been more specific. The knife I am looing at is a large fixed blade tactical model with an Americanized tanto point. Not a folder. I think I heard that they made folders but am not familiar with them. This particular fixed blade is pretty generic looking in that it could be anyone's design. By that I mean I haven't seen any particular manufactur'er or maker with one identical to this one. I mean I have seen other tanto pointed fixed blades so other than handle config. don't know how much different they could be. It is S30V steel, with micarta handle slabs. For 70 bucks it just seemed like a decent deal. I only carry a certain few folders most notably CQC7's of either A or B or a Commander. Sometimes but not often anymore a Tempest. Anyways thanks for the input. keepem sharp

Linton also ripped off Steve Ryan's designs. They also had the balls to set up at a show where Strider also had a table and sell their knock off POS knives right in plain view of them.

There is a large difference between using a certain part of a design, like a drop or clip point, and copying a design exactly.

It is called blatant POS ripoffs:jerkit: :barf:

Their ability to grammatically write a trade slick is probably proportional to their ability to manufacture a knife.
LOL, you ain't kiddin'. My favorite was the copy for the knife they called "Comet II, Hale-Hopp", which I guess must have came a few years after Hale-Bopp. :D

As follow the idea of sky was broken by Comet and people will put their palms together for pray ---Hope---

Please, could you point me to the original (the one ripped off) and its maker?

Thank you,

Rob
It Doesn't look like a direct ripoff, but more of a hybrid of ripped-off designs knitted together. Kinda like they put a TOPS Hawk Recon blade on a Strider handle and spray painted Strider stripes on it.
