I just picked one of these beauties up last night and I must say I'm very pleased with everything from design to fit and finish. Maybe I'm not as picky as others that have bought the knife but my Roto-Lock doesn't have the machining marks others have complained about and the stop pin is flush enough to not annoy me. Lockup is a little later than I've come to expect from a new knife at about 60% but I don't anticipate it moving too much more, if it does, the lock face is replaceable anyway. The one gripe I have (and it's a HUGE miss by Spyderco, IMO) is the lack of jimping on the thumb ramp. Honestly, in a knife with a $500 MSRP, why would you not add the jimping when it's become a standard in knives?

I'm somewhat surprised I haven't seen a whole lot of chatter on the Lionspy, even when it was fairly new. That may be why I can't find a custom scale for this model which brings me to ask, does anyone make a scale for the Lionspy? I'm a carbon fiber geek and would LOVE one for my knife. Thoughts?

Is there no love for the Lionspy?? I'm kind of surprised it's not well received, the only misses, IMO, are the clip and lack of ramp jimping

I have a Lil' Lionspy and it's absolutely fantastic

I think the price point - compared to other spyderco offerings - limits the audience.

My Lil' Lionspy has jimping on the thumb ramp, btw

One of the things I find amazing about the knife is the way the handle and pivot come together. I have taken one half of the pivot screw out (so just the post) and I still had zero blade play and perfect centering.

That said, I keep the pivot pretty loose and free, and it flips and flies open with both the thumb and middle finger flick to a loud THWACK of vault like lockup.

Love this blade.

I like mine a lot, fit and finish is perfect. It does cut a lot better after a regrind though.

The problem with it is price and for most non abusive tasks there are better blades (Military, Slysz Bowie, Domino etc.) I carry mine because it works well (not great) as an edc knife and it brings a smile to my face when I use it :D

It's not a terrible knife but it's expensive, heavy, has an obtuse edge, a clip that's too short/strong and jimping that for some reason has more traction in the "wrong" direction. Not one of my favorites.

The jimping is odd, I don't understand the half jimping. It's either full or none in my opinion and I've added jimping to older Spydies like my SE Endura in ATS-55 but the LS is too spendy to alter.
Weight is not an issue for me, I tend to like knives with a bit of heft although I feel the LS is very well balanced and does not feel as heavy as it actually is.
The edge sucks, I'll agree on that. I'm not sure if this will be one that I hold on to so I'm nnot going to do a reprofile, yet anyway.
All in all, I really like the knife. Size, fit & finish and materials are top notch I'm my opinion.

I forgot to say I had the clip on mine replaced by a longer clip from LionSteel :D

Did get a glass breaker for it as well ;) Shoot LionSteel an e-mail and they send it out (don't quite remember the price)

While I haven't handled a full-size LionSpy, I do own a Lil' Lionspy and I think it addresses most of the issues the full size apparently has. It's reasonably light, came razor sharp from the factory, the clip is very nice (one of my favorite clip designs, actually), and it looks like the jimping goes up further than on the full-sized one. My only complaint is that the nylon washers make it a little harder to flick out than my other Spydercos.

See my post above - I was able to loosen the pivot on my Lil Lionspy with no effect on centering or play; with the pivot much more "free" it deploys splendidly

I have two. As a compact hard-use folder, I think it's great. Paired with a nice alox SAK, you have a classy and still pocketable set-up that will handle most things.

But having said that, I didn't buy one until they started coming available at highly discounted prices.

I've found that whenever I loosen the pivot it develops just a tad too much play for my liking. I am rather picky about that though. Tangentially, I wish more non flippers had thrust bearings, because you can tighten them until they have no forced play at all.

Interesting. .. I was being honest in that I could take one half of the pivot and remove it from the knife entirely (just leaving the post/opposite screw in place) and still have zero play and perfect centering with mine.
