Does anyone know whether the Damascus blade on the SR-1 is better or worse than the regular sleipner blade? Because I like the Demarcus much more but wasn't sure what the HRC was or how good the edge retention was. Thanks for you help!

I use and carry a damascus sr-1 regularly. The steel has performed very well and hasn't needed sharpening since I reprofiled it when new. That was a couple months ago.

Honesty, the performance won't be much different unless you are incredibly picky. For normal daily use, if you gave me a blade in 440C and the same blade in ZDP-189 but didn't say which is which, I would never tell until I happened to chip the edge and need to sharpen. I would suggest Sleipner because it is a lot cheaper and the performance difference is little. Just strop your knife periodically and you will be fine.

Lots of truisms there. We can all be too steel an elitist at many a times. So many excellent blade steels these days.

I used to be a steel snob, but I stopped when I realized that if I didn't memorize my blade steels I wouldn't know the difference. So long as the steel is better than AUS-8 for over $50, or equal to or better than 420HC for sub-$50 I am good.

I'm still a steel snob... Albeit only at times now. I remember when back in 2005 when S30V was THE super steel. Even today S30V is a wonderful smashing blade steel no matter what!? Progress demands ever better...

It cracks me up about some steel snobs. What difference does it make if the knife is not going to be used????
ATS-34 stores just as well in a safe as INFI or the new super steels................:D

I doubt that the Chad Nichols stainless damascus on the LionSteel SR-1 outperforms Uddeholm's Sleipner tool steel on the regular titanium SR-1. Sleipner is LionSteel's favorite blade steel right now according to Gianni Pauletta who's one of the owners of LionSteel in Maniago, Italy.

I don't currently have a LionSteel SR-1 Damascus but there are several BF members who do. Your best bet is to post in the LionSteel forum: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/859-LionSteel-knives

I would love to see more pictures of you sr1 "EvanPGH"

Is like to see the spine of the handle and the blade and how has it held up? Have you had any blade play issues or problems with the lock or sharpness?

And also where do you think is the best place to buy a lion steel with Demarcus blade? Bladehq doesn't sell them and that's the only place I buy my knives from.

I haven't hardness tested my SR-1D but I'd be willing to bet it's on the higher end of the 56-58 range specified by Gianni as it has held an edge very well.

What's your definition of "better"?

The Sleipnir blade will hold an edge longer, but will be harder to sharpen. Corrosion resistance is a tricky one to compare because the damascus has carbon steel in it but it's also etched which resists corrosion. (I've only had a small amount of patina form on mine).

The damascus looks better, is USA made (if that matters to you) and wins the cool factor hands down.

If you're thinking the damascus is more expensive due to better cutting performance, edge retention or corrosion resistance you'd be wrong.

This is the third thread you have started in this forum asking virtually the same question. Not trying to be harsh but why not ask the questions in one of the other threads you currently have open about lionsteel blades rather than starting a new one every time.

Because I wanted other people to see it and I figured if I posted at the end of a forum that had 2 pages no one would see and it and there would be less input on the topic. And my definition of better is it holds an finer edge longer .
