To inform everyone that we will not produce the Esee Folder.

The main reason is because we are not able to say yes to everyone that wants our help in production.
We have so many backlog orders of LionSteel knives that we are obligated to find a solution.

We trust Esee company and for this reason we do not want make them any losses with delay production shipment problems.
We have honored our promised and make for them the samples for the Shot Show. But before accept the purchase order we must be sure that we will be able to honor also the production schedule that they need.

As everybody know LionSteel task was only to produce the samples, the choise of where to produce was open. No one from either parts has never guaranteed the final production. There is no one production order yet.
For this reason I immediately let to Esee know our production problem and let them choise the best things for their company.

I am sorry to lose this great opportunity but LionSteel is a small company that has quality like is own main focus. We want guarantee to all LionSteel fans the same quality that they are used to find in our knives. we want grow, but step by step.

Im looking forward seeing new designs from Lionsteel and despite the problem with Esee there seems to be exciting things ahead for you

Keep us posted

I like your designs, but as a poster in the other thread said, why did you negotiate a knife with ESEE when you knew you couldnt deliver? Bad business man, bad business.

I think this is a wise and smart decision. They are being really upfront and honest and not taking on more than they can handle so that they can deliver on the promise that they have already made. I'm sure this is best for everyone!

Do not make a mistake.
Esee asked me to produce samples nothing else. They tryed till last days before Shot Show to find an US producer!!
I promised them to make the samples within the Shot Shot. I have honored my promised like always LionSteel do.
I have never accept production program only because I have never had a purchase order!!... I say you more... my feeling was that they did not wanted make that knife outside US.

I would like to know if there is a company in all knives business that start to work 2.000 knives, under not his own name, without a formal purchase order.... it is incredible...

It was not a problem if we have to change one screw with another.. but only trust in a producer. If they had confidence in LionSteel why they looked for to another vendor till last days before Shot Show?
Why they did not be clear immediately with me?

During the Shot Show meeting (we had it during the third day of the show) they asked me 4 weeks for the purchase order.
What would happen if during the four weeks they will find an American supplier?
What I have to do in the next four weeks... I should say to LionSteel's customers that I can not send to them the already collected order because I am waiting the Esee order?

2000 pieces are a big order, not a joke.

I'm really sorry, it's not easy to say no to a possible order of 2000 pieces under a good name like Esee.

They hadn't finalized the design, materials or price and ESEE wasn't going to send a purchase order for a month. Sounds like a done deal to me.

I am quite sure that they would send me a PO in four week. Jeff confirmed it by mail Sunday while I was coming back to Italy.

I am only sorry that they did not be clear with me before the Shot Show in order to let me keep space for them in 2011 in my schedule production. LionSteel is a small company.

Anyway, I am happy that Rowen will produce the folding. They will have a great knife made in US.

I really understand this was a very difficult decision to make and it shows character to choose for keeping the high quality standards and not making promises that where hard to keep.
I'm sure a lot of brands will be knocking at your door

I hope you have noted some nice high end fixed blades in the production shedule for this year. :D
(Leave some space for Molletta ;) )

I think people that whine in this thread are getting their panties up in a bunch over a knife that hasn't even made it to the production stage yet.

So just so I have it straight, are you claming the reason you declined was because you were scared they would find a US supplier and leave you out in the cold?

Are you blaming them for the deal gone bad? Thats what it sounds like.

Im not trying to be hostile at all BTW, I just want to know the facts.

Both Lionsteel & ESEE make great knives, and this was just a deal that did not work out. I don't think there is anymore to it than that. It doesn't do anyone any good to keep flogging the horse over a non-deal.

it was a communication failure -- no one is at fault and no one is placing any blame.
Gianni made a tough decision for the best of his company and his customers and this deal fell through.
It's not the end of the world, it's just a production delay for ESEE introducing their new folder.
You're not out any $$, so why do you sound angry at Gianni in his own forum?

There was no contract, material were no agreed upon and numbers were not set in stone. Maybe based on the changes they had at The Shot Show, they could not produce what was required at the price thought on before. Maybe because of all the changes, it would take too long and would not meet the predicted deadline. Maybe they didn't want the quality of their work to be sacrificed due to being honorable enough to meet their deadline.
Personally if I was Gianni Pauletta, I wouldn't want to bend over backwards to try to finish a deadline, push back the order of my other knives and produce a knife for a company that wanted a knife not based on quality but because of where it was made. I would like to make good quality knives for people who appreciated/respect good craftsmanship of a well built/designed knife. And I am not speaking on Gianni Pauletta behalf, that's my own personal thoughts.
So if you are not here to discuss any further Lion Steel products or in a productive way, please do not from post in these forums because there is now way it would be tolerated in the ESEE forums. I think it is very rude for those not supportive to come over here and question Gianni Pauletta on what happened. There were many explanation and now it's all over. There is even a reason why the thread in the ESEE was locked, because there is nothing left to discuss. It's just not going to happen so just walk away.
