Lionsteel SR2A problem

I picked up a Lionsteel SR2A from Blade HQ because they had it for a stupid low price. I figured if my hand didn't like it I could trade it for more than I paid. Turns out I kinda love the size and design, the issue is in what could be a QC issue. The detent is VERY light.eLike I can shake the knife open easily, almost like a deassisted Kershaw without the detent hole. I can still rocket the blade open, it doesn't open in my pocket, and it is really smooth, the detent is just kinda sad considering it is a nearly $200 knife. I usually prefer stiffer detents, one of my first actions with a new knife is take it apart and bend the lock in a little after I clean it and reoil it.

Is this knife supposed to have a kinda sad detent? Should I talk to Blade HQ for the replacement, or Lionsteel for warranty because the lock can't be bent in with the uniframe design?

Hi dkb45 im not an expert on lionsteel but I do own a black SR2-A and the detent on mine is very good.So I think you can probably rule out that is just the design of the knife. Possibly the knife was returned to HQ because of the poor detent and that was why they had it on so cheep? Either way you should be able to get it fixed for at the most the cost of shipping it I'd think. Mind you that's just my opinion lol

You sure it's not a Ganzo?

I feel like you've had an issue with them in the past.

if a knife is returned for quality reason, a reputable dealer like bladehq shoulg not resell it as brand new and normal. So in OPs case, I dont think it shoulg be the case unless bladehq explicitly marked it as sale for cheap because of weak detent or sth like that.

Sounds to me like a perfect setup for them to send you an already-returned knife. Were there any restrictions or caveats to get the cheap price?

If it's something you can't live with, I'd return it to the dealer for refund or exchange. If they tell you it was their last one you can pretty much be assured it's someone's re-send.

My SR2A arrived flawless. Not a single scratch on it, not even a finger print on the blade. It sounds more like inventory clearance than pawning off a bum knife. Now I have taken my SR2A apart, so I would figure Blade HQ would be out of the question. Should I call and ask them if they can handle it as a defect even though it has been used?

Even if was returned and past the seller's standard return, the knife should be covered under a limited warranty and a weak detent should fall what's covered, if the weak detent isn't normal.

A defect is covered regardless of use. The item is meant to be used without defect. Resale will accounts for normal wear send test it price, but will almost never sell something, that doesn't work as it should. Especially with a warranty. The item will just be sent back to the manufacturers forward rebate.

Thank You Sharp_edge I wasn't sure if that could be the case or not. It just seemed odd that he got it cheep and he was having issues with it. However you make valid poinr and are probably right .

Called Blade HQ and they said they will do a replacement for another SR2A.

Very good for you. Well worth the trouble. I love my SR2-A. I paid full price for mine and it was worth every penny.:D

Got my replacement Saturday. I will have to take it apart and clean their factory grease off and use my own oil, but the detent is way better on the replacement. Now if only Lionsteel could stop doing such insanely steep edge angles...

I have to say, hats off to Blade HQ and their customer service. They stand behind their products. I had actually bought 2 Kizers before the SR2A that both had issues (both with unidirectional play), and the return process was hassle free, and I got the Lionsteel for the same price as the cheaper Kizers combined.

Enjoy mate, I consider my sr2a my best value modern knife. Given the one piece handle I'm too scared to pull it apart for fear of not getting it back together!!

Another example of Blade HQ's exemplary CS!
I've been seeing lots of thumbs up for BHQ......well deserved thumbs up!
