List of folders that can be/easy to customize

I've been playing with the idea of grabbing a new folder to change the scales, screws , maybe mess with the blade or do some file work. I was wondering if anyone had a list of a few folders (any brand) that would be "worth it" to modify. I recently purchased a Leafstorm that was already anodized and the scale was dyed and it sparked my interest. I know you can customize anything , but for example I know that it would be easy for a beginner to change the scales on a grip vs taking apart a buck 110. Just wondering if anyone had some advice on where to start if I wanted to start tinkering and what a nice easy- cool project would be. Thanks in advance!

I've put new scales on a Kershaw Chill and a Spyderco Tenacious. These are both inexpensive but serviceable knives. I made wood scales for them because I like the way wood looks and feels.

Currently working on a Buck 110 I got at a garage sale. I'm replacing the damaged wood inserts with ebony(all black, no streaks) and making the scales less blocky.

I dont know if this is possible or if it makes sense, but I was toying with the idea of making scales from the sample hardwood pieces that are like 4 or 5 inches from lowes, they cost around 50 cents and are in the flooring section, they sell them under each style of hardwood flooring- not talking about the pergo laminate- some of them are like curly maple and other cool looking woods. I dont know if they would hold up- I know you have to stabilize wood and Im sure flooring is stabilized -? -I would be able to cut it with a jigsaw and sand the finish to make it fit on a knife, just an idea. I would love to find a 110 and try my luck with that.

I used to work in San Francisco where there was a place that sold recycled building materials. I found a lot of flooring scraps for cheap.

Some of the different woods I got:

ipe
black walnut
hard maple
birdseye maple
oak
bamboo

You might check with local cabinet shops or flooring contractors and see if they have some hardwood scraps that would be large enough for scales.

I hope you are planning to share that one with us. I'm a sucker for 110's
