I've seen several posts moderated because one or another dealer mentioned was not a member of Bladeforums.

Where is the comprehensive(and never out of date, preferably) list of what dealers are kosher to mention and link to?

The list is located in the Exchange in the Dealers section. Anyone with green tags is good to go.

We really do need an explicit list. There are so many good Dealers it is hard to keep up, especially since some use one name for their company and another username.

I just went over there and I couldn't find anything like that in a sticky. I want a list I can ctrl-f a dealer name and then know for sure whether I can or cannot link to their site, etc. It has to include paying advertisers, etc. Every dealer it is okay to refer someone to, preferably in alphabetical order.

That's actually a pretty good idea

Maybe add it to the list of moderators in an alternate section.
You have your super mods, your forum specific mods, why not add the dealers to that listing? ;)

Very good idea. I'd say a list in the Dealer forum, plus a link in the Rules FAQ. Besides not knowing what dealers are supporters are here, many of the dealers are individuals with screen names or their actual names, and we might not know what company they represent. For example, Newgraham doesn't have an account under that name, but has a couple of their people with their names as a dealer. But gpknives has their account as gpknives. It's hard to keep track if you don't happen to know who's who.

Just a quick word, gomipile.

If you go to the Traditional sub forum, you are not allowed to mention any dealer or vendor for any reason. Period. Elliot monitors his piece of turf very well, runs a very tight ship and rarely makes any kind of exception.

No pictures from a website of a dealer paid or not with a distinctive style can be posted. No references can be made, no matter how vague, no matter the subject, if a dealer or his site is named you will hear about it. He is explicit and consistent in that and you will get dinged for it, most likely an infraction for any kind of vendor/dealer reference at all.

He is OK with all the PMs you want to fire off back and forth. Just nothing for the general populace to see.

Be careful when posting there.

Hmmm. I don't visit that forum. Do links in the sig line get a pass? I see many sig links in all the forums I visit regularly.

Nope. And as a dealer you cannot reference anything on your site, or anything you sell. You cannot post a picture from your site, but you can if it is a generic picture (say of a Buck from their site).

As a member, you cannot endorse or recommend a vendor/dealer, paid up here or not. You cannot talk pricing, or let a member know where you bought a certain knife. You cannot disparage or compliment a vendor/dealer either. You cannot talk about sharpening, maintenance of modifications. Again, any and all of that as a PM is no problem.

For that sub forum, the rules are quite specific, and pretty much all of this is spelled out here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/754956-Vendor-Links-Referrals-amp-Endorsements

Read down the page and you will see the links to the rest of the rules and regs. And of course, if there is any doubt about your post just email Elliot with your questions before posting.
