I found Codger 64 post very intresting. I have a 165OT which I bought about 1989 and made my own knife based on the style of the 165OT.
I would also like to know if a list of names/no. of Schrade knives is available.
For example 165OT - Woodsman and so on.
I have a 13OT but I don't know the name of the knife.

Hope someone can help?

Thanks,

Derick

I also have a 13OT Trailblazer and it is quite a knife. They were only listed in the Schrade catalogs for a short limited run, 1978-80, and that is ,I believe pretty early for a full tang drop point. It does hint at the later smaller bladed Pro Hunter PH1 and PH2 blade styles, as droppoints came into vogue. They also made a 14OT Timberline as you see by the list Larry provided, a companion blade with a clip point. The 13OT did not have an Uncle Henry counterpart, but the 14 did in the guise of the 141UH, with a changed blade grind angle.

The 165OT design is quite appealing to me as well. I have toyed with the idea of having a damascus bladed custom made on that pattern, but for now I am saving a few custom woods like Gabon ebony for rehandling an older 165 that has seen better days. Nickle silver mosaic pins and guard stock, and some reconstituted ivory for dressup are being considered as well.

Thanks for the list. I've printed it out in a check-off list (I have 22 of 'em).
A couple of questions:

I've seen the Mustang sold as 125OT and the 126OT (missing from your list). What's the difference?

Is there any such thing as an 881OT and an 86OT? Somehow those show up on a list I've been compiling... could be a typo.

There have recently been some knives on eBay advertised as 162OT. They are likely Ducks Unlimited knives that were never fitted with the D.U. logo. They do not have an OT tang stamp. I wonder if the 162 designation was invented by someone at the Schrade factory, someone at the distributor's, or perhaps even by the individual who's selling them.

Any insight on these matters will be most appreciated.

I'll leave the 125OT/126OT and881OT/86OT questions for Larry, Phil, LT, or one of the others, but I'll attempt the last one about the 162.

The 162UH Wolverine is an Uncle Henry fixed blade full tang pattern that first appeared in the 1982 catalog, and last in the 1985. There is no direct Old Timer equivilent. Yes, it was revived and used for Ducks Unlimited and other private issues from time to time, but the "mix and match" knives I am seeing on ebay right now with an IHEA or other etch and a DU shield were evidently finished out from WIP pieces, and not as Schrade production. Most have a SCHRADE+ over USA LTD. tangstamp and staglon handle, brass flat rivets, and a either have the shield missing, or one added like the "Virginia Wildlife 2000", or National Parks Anniversary with a Hunting Heritage etch.

The knife was introduced at the same time as the 164UH Badger and the 167UH Steelhead fillet knife. Both the Wolverine and Badger names were reused later on the 152UH and the 154UH.

The list is that of UH and OT knives that were published in Schrade catalogs.
THere where a lot of special knives and oddities are always appearing.
The 126OT Mustang is one I can talk about. It is the 125OT Mustang with SS blades. Never in a catalog. I think Schrade was going to put out a line of the OT's with SS blades and different stamping so we could tell them apart. Didn't happen. It was made the same year (1991) as the 512OT Sharpfinger which also never made it to a catalog but was produced and I have the boxes to prove it. This may be a hint for us to use to "Chase" the answer. Codger take note!. I've seen an 84OT and a few others that were probably made as a special orders. We have talked about these over time and I dont think we will ever know all the knives produces 100%. But we will keep digging. Something was going on 1991-92.
Thanks
Larry

hi Irv,
Just to clarify, the 512OT was also called the "Sharpfinger"? How did it differ from the 152?

Any more info on the 84OT? For instance, what was it named?

-Bob

As for the 881.. I have seen some sellers on ebay call these and other knives 'Old Timers', just because they don't know any better. But that knife was not; It had jigged handles and a crest shield. So many of my knives are packed away right now, I cannot check on the others.

And yep, my 162 has the same tang markings as yours Bob. Unless I had actually looked at the knife and seen the tang stamping, I'd say someone offering a 162OT may be making the same mistake as described in opening sentence.

And here is something else to consider, guys.. I doubt a Schrade knife from the UH or OT years has ever been faked, but with the extreme interest shown lately, and very un-savvy buyers looking to get lucky, can it happen now? Naw, let's hope not.

Phil;

So the 881OT isn't really an old timer model. I'm crossing it off my 'wanted' list.

Bob,

The 512OT box says its stainless which OT are not supposed to be.
It is the 152OT with the stainless blades again the box is printed 1991.
Same name, Sharpfinger,
Codger didn't you get one of these?
The 86OT sure does look like the 36OT to me but that means little.
Could be an 86 made for some large harwware chain.

Yes, the seller of this knife listed it as a 152, since that is what it said on the original box. He bought it new circa 1989 and just put it in the closet. It is exactly like my standard issue Sharpfinger, same brown sawcut delrin scales, same blade pattern, N.S. flat rivets and Old Timer shield. The only difference is that it has a stainless blade and the SCHRADE+ over 512OT tangstamp. Note that almost all of the 152's are not marked with the "OT" extension on the tangstamp model number, but SCHRADE over U.S.A. 152. The blade finish is the same satin longitudinal brusing that my "last shipment to Wal-Mart" stainless bladed regular 152 has, except again, the "lastie" is not marked stainless.

Larry's box matches the knife proving it was not a fluke of a drunken tangstamper, and the original owner's affirmation of date of purchase puts it early in the timeframe of the matching special box with it's printing date.

Treasure hunt anyone? Look at the tangstamp of every Sharpfinger you come across. You may well find the ultra-rare and elusive 512OT, which no sharpie collection is truely complete without!

Thanks for the ot list and the additional info its great for a newby like me. I've noticed several references to a book by Robert Clemente in posts, I did a search on amazon with no luck, is it still in print and/or available in bookstores?

Thanks
Mike

E-mail me and I will put you in touch with Mr. Clemente. You can order it direct and probably receive a photo disc as well.
