Share the nature of your addiction.

Custom tactical folders are my favorite style. I've grown quite fond of the many creations brought into this world by the following master craftsmen:

Favorites
Walter Brend
Pat & Wes Crawford
Randy Doucette
Kirby Lambert
Greg Lightfoot

These guys aren't bad, either :p
Mick Strider
Duane Dwyer
Les George
Reese Weiland
Rick Hinderer
Tom Mayo

...and, of course Tony M. :D

Who are your favorite custom makers?

I knew this question would come up sooner or later.
I'm going to take some time to think on it, but it's a great topic:thumbup:

Don Hanson
Jason Knight
Scott Slobodian
Many more but these guys are the first to come to mind

in no particular order:

burt foster
bruce bump

I could go on and on, but these are the ones off the top of my head.

I think that the only fair way for me to answer this question is to name the knife makers I've already dealt with in some fashion, primarily those who I've gotten knives from, (a couple whose knives came through someone else's hands). Then from those who've shared their time with me over the phone or in cyberspace, either talking about getting a knife made or supporting my interest in making knives;

Bob Lay
Peter Marzitelli
Seth Burton
Harald Moeller
Ivan Campos
Bryan Baker
Burt Foster
Matt Lamey
Tai Goo
Bill Maynard
Shosui Takeda
Will Leavitt
Nick Wheeler
Stephan Fowler

then;
Nick Wheeler
Magnus Axelson
Jason Knight
Burt Foster
Raymond Richard:)
Jay Fisher
Dave Lisch
Michael Burch
Harry Matthews
Wolfgang Loerchner

There are so many more people who are part of the equation for my interest, and I'm totally leaving quite a few out I'm sure.

If I were to dig real deep, I'd probably find Jody Samson, Jimmy Lile, Jack W Crain, and George Lucas;).

I have huge respect and admiration for the work of Buster Warenski, WW Cronk, Bill Moran and also of the earliest steel producing indigenous groups whose early works have been adopted and modified into today's very interesting and truly global world of cutlery.

Sorry, but if I make a list I know I am going to leave out someone, and I would not want to do that. All I can say is that there are quite a few makers that I think are outstanding.

I would have to categorize:
Damascus and Auto Folder - Jerry Rados.
Sub-hilt -Jim Siska.
Bowie - DH III
Integral - Burt Foster
Ingenuity and use of varying materials - Ray Richard.

I will throw a few in

Jay Hendrickson
A.G. Barnes
Burt Foster
Harvey Dean
Rodrigo Sfreddo

Not specifically in this order, but this is probably my top 5

SRF

Micheal Price
William Scagel
Buster Warenski
HH Frank
Micheal Walker
Wolfgang Loerchner
Bruce Bump

There are actually too many favorite makers, but I have restricted myself to 10 makers that are in this list for several different reasons.

In no particular order:

Larry Fuegen
Hugh Bartrug
Wolfgang Loerchner
W.W. Cronk
Scott Slobodian
Josh Smith
Wade Colter
Jim Schmidt
Arpad Bojtos
Roger Bergh

Marcel

*my first and only folder and what a wonder of a knife

My absolute hands down favorite makers are the ones I build sheaths for.....and it's a long, long list.
You can't argue with that!

With Keith on this one.
After spending some time this morning coming up with a list, I just deleted it.
Even if listing a couple dozen makers I would leave someone out.

Interesting that there was two makers on my favorites list, whose knives though very nice, don't really interest me.

Good answer:D As for me, I really can't whittle down the list and make it small enough to fit in a post, so I will just list the guys who are currently inspiring me stylistically, which is another way of saying guys who do things that I can figure out how to do much simpler and sloppier versions of....lol.
Don Hanson III
Russ Andrews These two guys helped my to see they light as far as how to do non-clunkly guards on big honkin bowies. Russ also taught me the joys of Fiebings stained stag.........and orange fingers.
Bill Moran.....that ST24 blade shape is still one of my favorites and I really like his little early 60's Aviator knives.
John White.....one of these days I will go to the panhandle and take him hostage. The ransom will be for him to teach me how to do frame handles.
Heather Harvey (I am still trying to copy a small hunter of hers that was in Knives 2005...lol)
Jim Crowell......any BIG hunter you see me do is inspired by Jim.
Jerry Fisk.......nuff sed.
Lin Rhea......Stole his idea for a big chopper...lol.
Nick Wheeler.....makes great knives and he may be the only man on the planet who works slower than I do, albeit for different reasons.:D
Jason Knight.....BIG knives.
Harvey Dean, Ed Caffrey, Charles Ochs, J.D. Smith.......my video professors.;)
Non-knifemaker honorable mention goes to Paul Long for saving me from the humiliationof tryingto make my own sheaths.
This is abour as incomplete list as thereis, but its late.
