A recent find, weighs about a pound. Has anyone ever seen a Bluegrass like this? One this small?

Unlikely these have been made in quite some time! I think I read somewhere that Plumb USA was contracted to make these many years ago. Collector value of this particular one will diminish considerably if you decide to use it. It's as close to NOS or NIB as it gets.
If it's authentic (and it probably is) it'll be eye candy for some of the folks on here.
Thanks for posting.

Almost certainly made by Vaughan. Should be an 8oz head with a 10.5" handle and 2.5" bit. The paint is even similar to some of the older Vaughans I've seen. You can buy a currently produced one if you want a user.

Looks just like the Vaughan sub zero hatchet, but with a much nicer handle and sheath.

I'd say the Vaughan sub zero is like the chevelle of hatchets, and yours is like an SS.

( I would say that, but since Vaughan calls them the super sportsman, they literally the SS )

So, is this fairly recent production?

I'd expect you'll want to hear from the axe guru Steve Tall when it comes to pedigree and vintage. But, while you're waiting, enter Belknap Bluegrass into the forum search feature because that name does crop up here regularly.

I would say that it's probably not too old as the head very close to the current sub zero hatchets.

SKU and Bar codes on handle stickers and head decals is not a recent invention nor is the CYA (Cover Your Arse) 'wear safety goggles' required markings. And this one features neither. So I'm guessing pre 1977 as a consequence, at the very least.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. It's a very nice little hatchet but
and odd one to me. Well made, very nice sheath nice to handle but really
small. I like it.

Check out the " the mini hatchet thread " and you'll learn how useful they actually are, I absolutely love mine.
