BM 630 review
I had the BM 630, Skirmish, for about 7 days. Im not a huge knife owner with tons of comparisons to make but I can certainly say what I liked and didnt like.
I wont spend too much time on this since others have written better and more thorough reviews of the Skirmish.
The good
This is a big, beefy, sturdy knife. The blade is thick but still very sharp. I sliced through paper like nothing. I didnt do any serious stress tests but I tried to jiggle the blade a bit and there is NO play whatsoever.
Its a very attractive knife, although I understand that thats a very subjective evaluation. I like the looks of it a great deal.
The bad
I like the size of the knife but it doesnt lend itself well to the type of carry that Ive gotten used to. I usually wear my folders in waist band, clipped to my pants from the inside, in the 1 or 2 oclock position. This has worked fine with smaller knives but this big knife jabs into my stomach pretty good when I sit down. Not very comfortable there.
My current EDC is a Kershaw folder with the torsion bar Flipper. I decided to spend a good deal of time practicing with a manual opening folder. I learned some good (I think) technique in opening this kind of knife. I did however find that the spot where you push in order to close the blade is a bit rough and really tore up my thumb after a few hundred openings and closings.
Pros
very large
Sturdy/well built
Cons
Perhaps a bit too big
Sharp thumb ridges
Overall, I think this is an awesome knife and I wouldnt hesitate to purchase it. I just learned that a smaller version (BM 635) is in the works as well.
