Little 'chips' on Delica 4 FFG spine?

Hi guys, I just got my first real knife, a spyderco Delica 4 FFG, for xmas. Maybe I'm too worried about keeping the blade nice, but yesterday I noticed on the spine there are a couple really small scratches/chips on top of the spine. I always carry it in an empty pocket so I'm not really sure what would have caused them. They are very small, but it still bothers me. Does this happen on anyone else's spydercos? I'm sure as I use the knife for longer I will care less and less, but I thought I'd ask.

First off, congrats on your venture into "all things bladed". Spydie Delicas are great knives...my wife EDC's one. Secondly, post up some pix if you can. It will allow the good folks here to help in more detail.

Have you used the blade in a manner that might create such blems? Spyderco's fit/finish and quality control is very good, IMO, and I personally have not seen such damage from the factory, but like I said, pix will help.

I think they're cause when the blade is cut out of the steel billet.
I have seen these little marks on several Spyderco's. It's not a big deal, just something from manufacturing.

I wouldn't be surprised if it came that way from the factory and you just didn't notice it right away. My Cold Steel American Lawman has a chip or ding in its spine, straight from the factory. It bugs me a little since the knife is still in really good condition, but it's within the realm of the acceptable for knives at this price point.

I assure you it'll bug you a little less each time you use the knife and after the clip's coating and the blade's finish eventually begin to match.

I was able to get a pretty good picture.. is this what you were thinking of? Totally true about not caring about it after a while though. The first scratch on my iPhone was disappointing, now I couldn't care less.

Yup, that's the stuff. Here's some shots of my Lawman's blade spine:

Not pretty, but it happens on occasion and it's totally normal. What you said about your iPhone was spot-on. Enjoy the knife, friend!
