Hello,
I just bought a KMG and it came with a motor. Its 2hp 115/230V. I cannot do any rewiring on my apartment building, so is there any way to step this thing down so I can use it in a normal 110V plug? If I am looking right, this would currently draw 20amps at 110v, which is too high unless I am wrong. What can I do? Am I up a creek? I am an electrical moron, and literally know nothing. The motor owner says I just change the "taps" and I can run it no problem, but that it will draw 20 amps.

Someone enlighten me or provide me a "electrical instruction for morons" link.
Thanks!

Draw 20 amps or needs a 20 amp circuit ? It probably draws just under 20a at start-up and runs a few amps less than 20a. It would be best to have a dedicated circuit or in your case not have anything else on at the same time.

I dont know! :)

I am going to go home and check the breaker. I bet theres only a 15 amp line on that room. What would my options be? I know i can up the breaker but risk fire (not happeneing)....any way to de-power the motor to draw less amps?

Just bring it down here and I'll take care of it. :D :D

I may need to take you up on that! I checked the breaker on that room and its only 15 amps. Someone in another forum said i'd be fine since under light load it should only pull half the amps it can draw, which would be 10....I'd prolly be popping breakers all the time, though.....

My other option is to drill a hole in my floor, which is directly over the dryer. I could just plug it into the dryer socket if thees no problem having a 10' cord on the motor.....

Indian George, what can you do? :D
