Stabilized black ash burl from Mike Ludeman (W.S.S.I.)
Handstitched 9/10 oz. sheath (it was my first)

Simple but gorgeous. The sheath is great. Very clean and well made. Great work.

Nick, my friend--- You did a fine job on the leather! How do you like attaching the belt loops that way? Neat, uh? Try using a little lighter leather such as 7/8 oz. It is adequate for most sheaths and bends (folds) and molds better. The sheath will flow better if you round out the swell instead of bringing it to an abrupt angle. What dyes and final finish are you using? Got questions? I may have some of the answers, my friend, try me! Best--- Sandy

Very nice, clean lines and the black ash realy sets it off.The sheath looks good too, especaly for your first.

geez, thanks guys! :)

Sandy, I think the picture is too dark on the screen to show the sheath very clearly here. It looks like an abrupt angle, but I had some VERY GOOD sheaths here at the shop to look at for reference, and I followed those wise foot-steps ;)

The belt loop on this one is all one piece, and wrapped back around. The last 4 I just finished I wrapped the belt loop INSIDE so that only the finished side of the cow shows.

In case you guys didn't catch on, Sandy is my good friend and has helped me tremendously in getting started...even though he lives in Georgia and I live in Washington!

I'm saddle stitching all my sheaths with 7 cord Barbour's linen. I have been dying it, but I noticed some of the big leather craftsmen are leaving it white. Thoughts on that???

I'm dyeing them with Tandy Pro Dyeand sealing with Leather Sheen or Satin Sheen.

I'll post some fancier stuff in a few.

Thanks again! :)
Nick

Thanks, Nick---

Anytime I can help-- that's what friends are supposed to do. The materials you are using are the best and it sure looks as though they are being put to good use. Sandy

That's a slick little knife. Love the shapes and I can just imagine how comfy that crook in the back of the handle would be. Very clean. For your first sheath job, that's awesome. Congrats.

Nick,
That's a great looking "Baby Bowie" you've made there. :D The handle is dazzling, both in its beautiful material choice and its lines. Betcha that little puppy is real comfortable in hand. For your first sheath, that one looks mighty smooth. Well done on the whole enchilada!
