Hey all, just incase you might be interested, there is a 25 pound LG for sale on eBay in the Chicago area. The Item must be picked up. I broke the reserve on it, just because I am nosey:) . But if you all need one more than me (I don't know what i would do with two), have at it!

If one of you guys/gals wins it and needs help getting it to your place, let me know. I am only a couple hours from the Chicago area and I would be glad to help.

Here is the link:

Why is it that every time an opportunity presents itself like this I'm broke?:grumpy: Don't suppose you'd buy it for me would ya, Mr. Laredo7mm, sir:D

I could do that:) That would be one heck of a hall to Utah though! I did not bid that much on it, since they seem to go for alot on eBay, but you never know, she might go for cheap since it a pick up item.

I'll keep an eye on it for ya.;)

I'm going to keep my eye on that one, thanks man I would not have seen that. Which side of Chicago do you live on? Just curious, might stop by on the way home for some show and tell! :D

Dave-

I live in SW michigan about 150 miles from Chicago. I emailed the seller to get a better I dea of where they are located. They did not tell me a city but said they are about 4 hours from South Bend Indiana. From that it looks like they are pretty close to the Iowa border. Probably a short drive for you and about 5 hours for me. Right now they are at my bid of $300. I doubt I will go higher since I already have one. But if I had another one, I wouldn't have to switch dies:)

Anyway, it doesn't seem to be getting as much activity as the other power hammers do, but there is alot of time left and everybody seems to bid at the last minute. Good luck and if you get this guy, let me know if you need any help rebuilding it if it needs it. I rebuilt my 25# LG. I still might go through and pour and bore the clutch and drive wheel babit. Has alittle too much play for me.

Hope you get it, they are great machines. There is no way I could make the damascus that I do without a power hammer.

Hmmm, looks like there is some competition out there....LOL...

From looking at the bidders feedback and what they bid on, it looks like another knife maker. There were a couple references to Bill B. in the feedbacks also. Very, very, intersesting:)

LOL, the mill/drill is nice looking and heavy duty. I don't like the crappy Asian motor on it though. Seems to work alot better wired to 240 instead of 120V. What I ultimately want to do is get another vfd and a 3ph motor for it so I don't have to change the belts to change speeds.

But I don't know how it works yet. I have not used it. It is in the basement, on the bench, and wired, but i still need to get all the little t-nuts, a better vise, collets, etc.

One of these days it will be set up!

I upped the bid to $310 and set a max of $1000, not really knowing how e-bay operates. I looked back a half-hour later and the bid was $1025. AH, well, no hammer this time...

BTW, the hammer is in Amboy, IL, sw of Rockford an hour. Woulda been a nice drive for either of us, dave.

apparently I blew it by setting a "secret" maximum bid too early, my friends tell me. regardless, the other guy was prepared to outbid me, anyway. and, i'm not gonna pay more than a grand for a good hammer that hasn't been rebuilt. ah, well.....

hey Fitz, don't worry. eBay is an wierd cat. I try to stick to one theory when bidding. Figure out what my max is to pay for the item, enter it and try not to look and see what is going on until the auction is over. That way you don't get caught up in the "auction fever" and pay more than what you were comfortable with.

I bid $300, that got blown out of the water in a matter of hours. No biggy. I bought my current LG, an old champion forge blower, and a blowhorn stake anvil for $350. All I had to do was drive 700 miles round trip to pick it up. I sold the blower for $80 profit, and gave the stake anvil to my buddy who rode with me as a thankyou gift for helping me load it in the truck (the same guy who got the cable bowie for xmas) and then unload it into my basement.

Then spent about $300 on replacement parts and two new custom dies, can I complain? Absolutley not. A great little power hammer for $600 and my time, I would do it again in a heart beat.

eBay is an odd duck, there are alot of great deals out there, but you just have to be patient. I don't think it matters if you bid early or late as long as you know what you are willing to pay.

Until then, i will be searching for that next great deal. Plus I promise you all, if i find something that looks good at a good price, and i don't necesarily need it, I will let you know and do what i can to help you get it.

thank you. it was my first time on e-bay. i am not an auction person.
what i'd really like is this way cool air hammer, Kinyon style, that's built by a guy named Maurice Ellis in Belgrade, MO. The forty pounder just plain wails at 400BPM, actually striking enough to keep the steel hot, longer. It just did amazing amounts of reduction in one heat. Problem is, of course, that the guy gets $2300 for the thing and then it needs a 2-stage 5HP 60 gallon compressor. It quickly turns into a $3500 project. AH, well, I guess that's why they call em dreams.

Thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it.

Sweany, you must be thinkin' of Ronald McDonald...the red headed clown...:D hee hee:D

Maurice had a air hammer about 5-6" tall with maybe a 1/4x1/2" anvil face. It was a cute little thing. It just wailed away with no control but sure was fun sitting next to the big boys. Bowie, Steve Pryor and I spent a real nice afternoon with him at his 2-polebarn shop. Showed us some metal spinning and we played with the hammers.
Real nice man and his wife was very kind. His hammers are marvelous.

Yeah Fitz, that tiny little hammer was quite the novelty, and the larger ones were almost enough to make one want to become a pounder.:barf:  :)
